Wranglers depart with $14,845 in prize funds

Danny Alires of Moxee scored a 74 Sunday to tie for first place in the saddle bronc event.

Wranglers in the Palouse Empire Rodeo took home a total payout of $14,845 after the three go-rounds during the fair at Mockonema. The local association again added $3,500 to the entry fees for the day.

Biggest individual purse of the day went to Brian Hill of Lewiston who clocked 10.22 in tie down roping on Sunday for $675 in first place money.

Grandi Oro and Tommye Flenniken of Weiser, Idaho, hit a 4.89 right off the top in Sunday’s team roping to take home $660 each out of the big $4,128 team roping pot.

Jessie Tennant of Pomeroy wraps up a 79-point ride to tie for first place in the bareback event Sunday.

Rodeo fans Sunday also got to see two back-to-back super rides with Jesse Tennant of Pomeroy scoring a 79 in bareback and Danny Alires scoring 74 as the lone saddle bronc entrant. They tied for first place money with Justin King of Sagle, Idaho, in the bareback and Jacob Stacy of Soap Lake in the saddle bronc event.

Local entrants Emmet Evans of Pullman placed fifth in the calf roping with an 11.33, and Sam Weber of Colton placed seventh with a 12.57.

Maggie Weber of Colton placed sixth in the breakaway roping with a 2.9 behind the 2.56 win posted by Ky Barry of Auburn.
