Colfax ready to launch 4th edition of Hullabaloo

Come rain or come shine Colfax has put on its finest face for the fourth edition of the Autumn Harvest Hullabaloo this weekend.

“We’ve taken care of just about everything, but even we can’t do anything about the weather,” said Elaine McClintock, chair of the Hullabaloo committee. “So my advice is to just bundle up and have fun anyway.”

The National Weather Service is predicting a high likelihood of showers this weekend.

Soggy or sunny, this year’s Hullabaloo kicks off at 3 p.m. Friday, as artisans roll out their craft booths at the First Baptist Church and antique dealers sell their wares inside the old Sandbagger building on Main Street.

Colfax retailers and restaurateurs will offer specials throughout the two-day soiree.

Friday’s fun peaks at 6:30 p.m. with a new event, a pet parade down Mill Street. Youngsters and their best beasts will be in the parade.

Saturday events begin with cars, quilts and flapjacks.

The fire department will begin their fireman’s breakfast at 7 a.m. inside the fire station. Cost for the breakfast is on a donation basis.

At 9 a.m. the gym of the Baptist Church re-opens, stocked to the hilt with items made by area artisans. The Sandbagger antique mall will also re-open at 9. Both venues will remain open until 5 p.m.

Events ramp up at 10 a.m., as the Kiddy Court, featuring games, face painting and a bouncy castle opens next to the library.

On the other side of the U.S. Bank building will be the food court and beer garden, where adults can enjoy a wide variety of delicacies.

All morning long, music will accompany the gastric goodies in the food court.

Western Washington band Locust Street Taxi will play their unique brew of horn-fueled dance music on the Hullabaloo stage beginning at 12:30 p.m.

The second annual karaoke contest will be from 10 a.m. to noon.

Hullabaloo’s second car show takes over the DSHS parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Quilters can inspect the handiwork of the entrants at the CETC building all day.

Also beginning at 10 a.m. will be Colfax’s own Antique Road Show. Uniontown’s Russ Wheelhouse of “Deluxe Goods,” along with Ted Littelfield and Willie Weech will lend their antique appraisal expertise in the Sandbagger building to those who want to know how much the treasures are worth. All are encouraged to check their attics and bring in their hidden treasures for appraisal.

There will be tours of Colfax’s downtown buildings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Perkins House will be open for tours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Whitman County library will celebrate Hullabaloo from 9-5 Saturday with a free jumping castle for kids, hullabaloo photos, balloons, T-shirts and surprise visits from the book bear. The castle will be located in the kiddy court directly next to the library. Drader photography is offering photos all day on the main floor of the library.
