The Other by David Guterson has been the selected for the 2009 Everybody Reads regional program which culminates with appearances by the author in early November. Everybody is encouraged to read the same book and participated in public discussions and great the author at a variety of locations.
Guterson is best known for his award-winning novel Snow Falling on Cedars.
The Other is a coming-of-age tale that presents two powerfully different visions of what it means to live a good life. Two young men share a love of the outdoors, often trekking into Washington’s remote backcountry where they rely upon each other for survival. Soon after entering college, their paths lead them in different directions while continuing continue to intersect.
Appearances by Guterson on the Palouse will be Nov. 9 at the Colfax High auditorium at 10:15 a.m. and at Neill Public Library at 7 p.m. Nov. 10 at Moscow High School at 9:45 a.m. and at the Kenworthy Performing Art Center at 7 p.m.
Guterson will appear Nov. 12 at 9:30 a.m. at Clarkston High School and at Lewiston Community Center at 7 p.m. ; Nov. 13, h at Lewiston High School at 11 a.m. and at Nez Perce Library at 7 p.m.
