Serving Whitman County since 1877
Garfield-Palouse Middle Schoolers started the school year with their first Spirit Week, including daily dress-up competitions and a pep rally for the football and girls’ basketball teams.
Homeroom winners were chosen daily based on each day’s theme: pajama day, random day, nerd day, twin day and school colors day.
These winners, plus all students who dressed out for all five competitions, won an ice cream sundae.
The pep rally, directed by ASB President Ariel Hoffman and Vice President Lexi Rodriguez, introduced the 2009-2010 ASB, as well as the 2009 Raider Football team, coached by Bob Wolf and Ron Redman, and the Raider girls’ basketball team, coached by Jeremy Kimble and John Cole.
The assembly concluded with a gathering of each of the three Viking “tribes” — Norse, Swedes and Danes — each composed of mixed 6th, 7th and 8th grade student teams who are competing for prizes throughout the year.
The week ended with a Rec Afternoon led by Tim and Tina Coles.
