Eagles will host XC meet today
St. John/Endicott will host an SE League cross country race today, Thursday, at the St. John golf course. The meet will be the lone in-county race for B division schools this year. Starting time will be at 4 p.m.
Last Thursday Tri-Cities-Prep booked a tidy 28 points to lead a preview round of the SE competition in a meet on the Pomeroy Golf Course, one of the tough locations on the loop.
St. John/Endicott, which had two seniors on the sick list, tied with Liberty Christian at 89 points, but the Eagles claimed third place with John Quinton's 36th place finish at 24:17. Quinton was the number-six finisher for the Eagles and he finished ahead of the number-six runner from Liberty Christian.
Waitsburg/ Prescott's team was second with 47 points.
Coach Andrea Miller noted the Pomeroy run served as a sampler of SE competition. Lone team missing at the starting line was the Asotin Panthers.
Nick Loumetta of TCP was the top finisher over the course, which takes runner up and down the terrain at the golf course, with a 18:40.
Top five finishers for the Eagles were Jason Swannack, 9th at 19:39; Brad Riehle, 19th at 21:25, Caleb Rich, 23rd at 21:39; Dakota White, 26th at 22:10, and Alex McCue, 28th at 22:18.
Cody Siegel and Drake Hinkins were out of the lineup for the Eagles.
Callie Kolb placed fourth in the girls race with a 24:15 behind the win by WP's Maya Garcia at 22;46. Meghan Gfeller placed fifth at 24:21 for the Eagles.
Willson tops Gorilla race
Morgan Willson added another cross country win Tuesday when she clocked an 18:39 at an NE run in Davenport. Willson finished about a minute ahead of the pack over a course which was just under 5K on a flat, but windy, course at Gorillaland.
Coach Jamie Kinley plans to enter the Colfax sophomore in the Gonzaga Prep Invitational at Finch Arboretum in Spokane Saturday for a run with some of the top GSL runners.
Kyle Largent led the Colfax boys at Davenport with a 19:28 for seventh place.
Other clockings for the Bulldogs were Cody Wuestney 21:35, Brian McAdams 21:57, and Brady Cornelius 24:53.
In the jayvee race Jackson Elfers clocked third in the boys race at 10:05. Brynn Buck clocked 10:34 and Katie Largent 11:49 in the girls race.
