Rolling off a ninth-place tie finish in the big crossover tournament at Spokane Saturday, the Colfax volleyball team downed Northwest Christian at Colbert Tuesday in an early showdown for the Bi-County league race.
Both teams went into the match undefeated in league play with NWC rolling on a 4-0 mark.
Colfax took the match in three games, 25-7 25-15 and 26-24. The Bulldogs are now 4-0 in the league and the lone undefeated team.
“I think we sort of slipped out of gear after big wins in those first two games,” Coach Sue Doering commented. She noted the Crusaders were able to run some plays and Colfax lagged for most of the game.
“I think next time we’ll be a little more cautious,” she noted.
NWC took game three to 22-18 and then 24-22, but couldn’t put the game in the box.
Megan Pearson put down a kill to get the serve for Colfax and Brooke Webers, who served 23-23 for the night, stifled the NWC offense. Kayla Johnson finished it out with two kills.
At Spokane Friday and Saturday, the Bulldogs ran a sweep of their opening pool play at Ferris.
They defeated University 25-23 23-25 and 15-10 in the opener and then downed Tri Cities Prep 25-13 25-13. The pool run ended with a two gamer over Graham-Kapowsin from Puyallup, 25-19 25-20.
The pool run put Colfax into the final 16 run for the title round which played out a Ferris.
The moved to 4-0 in the tourney with a win over West Valley 25-12 15-26 and 15-11.
The Bulldogs then ran into Riverside of Auburn and lost 25-15 and 25-22. That put them into the one-game elim bracket and they bowed out to Richland 25-18.
Now 18-5 overall, Colfax Thursday booked a home win over Liberty, 25-10 25-12 and 25-10.
