Teacher Brenda Kjack, Julie Pittmann and 6th grade class show certificates and patriotic gifts. Students singing the fight song at the homecoming game last Friday.Julie Pittmann and Leslie Gunnels, both from Rosalia and members of the Esther Reed Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), presented certificates, flag pins and pencils to the Rosalia sixth grade class Monday.
Brenda Kjack taught her 15 students the preamble to the United States Constitution in honor of Constitution Week 2009. Pittmann and Gunnels shared stories of their Revolutionary War ancestors and how to look for ancestors by researching census records, birth and death certificates. The class recited the Constitution Preamble and the Pledge of Allegiance.
In addition to each student receiving a certificate, Mrs. Gunnels presented Mrs. Kjack with a certificate of appreciation, that will be displayed in the school showcase. Mrs. Pittmann, Regent of the DAR Chapter, voiced that the flag pins each student received is the same pin that each naturalized citizen receives upon becoming a new United States Citizen in Spokane County. She also spoke on the importance of history and how the DAR encourages students to learn about our heritage.
