Daniel F. Thomas, 25, Lamont, was allowed release on his own recognizance after being jailed Tuesday morning on probable charges of assault, malicious mischief, unlawful possession of a firearm and harassment. The arrest report filed with the court said deputies responded to a residence in Lamont in the early morning hours Tuesday after receiving a report that Thomas had assaulted his girlfriend in an argument.
The report said Thomas also destroyed a DVD player when he threw it against a wall during the argument. The report said while Thomas was arguing with his girlfriend he asked another resident to go get his rifle from a closet. The man instead took the unloaded rifle out of the closet and put it in a truck cab outside the residence.
As part of pre-trial release, Thomas was ordered not to have any contact with the victim. Formal charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, harassment and fourth degree assault with domestic violence were filed Friday.
