Colfax picks up six tons of wet leaves

Colfax crews collected 10 loads of leaf bags Monday after many Colfax residents spent part of the weekend raking their yards. Each load weighed approximately 1,300 pounds so the total collection was more than six tons.

Rain early Monday added to the weight of the bags. Andy Rogers, public works director, asked residents to consider the weight factor when raking up wet leaves. He noted crew members have to lift the bags onto the truck.

The bags are hauled to a composting area in back of the Colfax sewer treatment plan. They are mixed with dirt to make up the compost....
