Emphasis patrols for seatbelts

Night patrols for seatbelt use have been slated in Whitman County beginning tonight. The extra patrols will continue until Nov. 8 under an $8,100 grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission. Police agencies participating in the emphasis patrols will be the Whitman County Sheriff’s office, WSU and Pullman police departments.

The grant funding is aimed at night patrols for seatbelt use. Seatbelts when properly used reduce the chance of injury by approximately 70 percent.

Fine for a citation for failure to use a seatbelt in Washington State is $124.
