Serving Whitman County since 1877
Between 10 and 15 bids for the remodeling project at the Whitman Library building in Colfax are expected at the bid opening Thursday at 4 p.m., according to Larry Kom, designer of the project. Kom said bids for the construction part of the project are anticipated in the $750,000 range.
Thirty potential bidders took part in a pre-bid conference at the library Oct. 7, Kom said.
The bid plan includes six alternative items which would be added onto the project, depending on the amount of the primary bid amount. Kom said other costs outside of the construction bid, such as shelving, will also be considered before the library board decides on which alternatives, if any, will be mixed in with the project.
Casellaw-Kom Architects of Lewiston began planning work at the first of the year. Kom said some of the design work was tabled at one point until library officials were certain of a timing on a USDA loan which is part of the project.
Overall cost of the job is expected to be in the $1 million range.
