Different approach
This is in response to the letter in the Oct. 15 paper titled “Recognizing that no-till works.” As I share the author’s passion for direct seed and the many benefits realized by adopting these systems, I also believe that there are better ways to promote direct seed. When you use terminology like “almost immoral” all that is accomplished is discrediting any facts that were presented earlier in the article, alienating the very audience you want to reach, and simply hurting the cause. My suggestion would be to promote these sustainable farming systems through education and facts. For more information contact a local conservation district. Great Web sites are also available.

Anonymity?
I have heard from many locals who are against commercial wind farms being erected on the Palouse. Why aren’t more of you speaking out? Are you afraid? I don’t blame you. We have lost friends over it. When you take a politically incorrect stand, you are ostracized, but we cannot sit in silence and just let this scam spoil the beautiful Palouse.
At the public meeting, most of those in favor were from out of the area and admitted they had a financial interest. We have nothing to gain from opposing wind farms, in fact, it’s cost us dearly. We are doing it because the wind industry is a huge money maker for the very few involved and financially detrimental to all the rest of us. Where do you think all the money comes from? It certainly doesn’t come from electricity production.
I urge you to drive down to the Biggs Junction area along the Columbia River and see the devastation to the landscape. The local citizens have a very different story than what you hear from the news media, county officials and the few that are in on the scheme.
Once these monsters are erected in Whitman County, it will be too late, so you’d better have photos to remember the Palouse as it was, because it will never, ever be the same. Why did the wind developers choose this location, where wind resource maps show only marginal wind? They target rural -areas that are financially struggling and promise wealth to the local government and a very few farmers. Wind developers have been known to go where there is the least resistance, wind or not.
Commercial wind farms are not an energy solution; they are more likely a detriment, as witnessed by those maintaining the turbines and those operating the grid. I have begged, but cannot get anyone to do an honest cost/benefit study. That’s because they know the answer and it doesn’t fit their politically correct agenda.

Supports Fagan
I am supporting Susan Fagan’s candidacy to represent the 9th Legislative District. Susan Fagan is knowledgeable about business, farming, natural resources, forestry, education and the political arena. She is very concerned about the health care issues that face us all.
Susan has a deep commitment to serve all the residents of the 9th Legislative District. She is intelligent, ethical and has the courage to do what must be done in Olympia.
I highly recommend Susan Fagan as our representative in the House of Representative.

Palouse ticket
Darcie Bagott. Mike Milano. Cecil Floyd. Roger Marcus. The best team to keep Palouse moving in a positive direction. Lately, there has been an agenda to present the city of Palouse, its workers, mayor, and city council in the worst possible light. Do not allow these people to take Palouse back to the days before we had such rewarding community spirit and cooperation. Keep Palouse on track. Keep Palouse moving forward. Keep Palouse positive. Re-elect Darcie Bagott and Mike Milano. Elect Cecil Floyd and Roger Marcus.

Right choice
Pat Hailey is the right choice for State Representative. Pat believes that a state representative must be ready, willing and able to be a representative for all of the people of this district. She believes that a good legislator listens at home and takes the message of the constituents to Olympia.
Pat has the old fashion values, integrity, and dedication to speak up for the people of this district. When Pat Hailey gives her word on something, she will work hard to deliver.
As many know, Pat worked alongside her husband, the late State Representative Steve Hailey, for the past seven years on legislative issues important to all of us. Because of this experience, she is well rounded and knowledgeable on the issues facing our district and our communities.
Pat is a farmer. She understands hard work. She owns and manages the farm she lives on which is located within the 9th District of this State. As a farmer and a business owner, she understands how irresponsible legislation and regulations can affect not only farmers and business owners but the communities supported by these dollars.
Pat is a former school employee and an elected school board member and has experience in dealing with ever increasing education needs and finding ways to do more with fewer funds.
Pat Hailey has the support of the people of this district, community leaders, legislators currently serving in the State Legislature, business owners, farmers, ranchers, medical and education professionals, and people like you and me.
I hope you will join us by voting YES to elect Pat Hailey as our next state representative.
Carol Miller,
Othello
