Morgan Willson wins league race
Colfax sophomore Morgan Willson won the Bi-County championship race at Harrington Friday with a time of 19:28. She finished 1:48 ahead of number-two runner, Christina Anderson of Northwest Christian. The Crusaders won the girls team title with 21 points. Reardan, the only other girls team entrant, tallied 35.
Anderson clocked 21:16 and Lisa Vandenburg on NWC finished third at 22:55.
Finishing for the Colfax boys at Harrington were Kyle Largent, 11th at 20:31; Cody Wuestney, 14th at 21:38; and Brady Cornelius, 32nd at 26:42.
Jon Williams of NWC won the boys race at 18:12, and Grant Schultz of Reardan placed second at 18:39.
Team scores for the boys were 34, Davenport 41 and Reardan 50.
Next race will be the state qualification for District 7 Friday at Plante’s Ferry in the Spokane Valley. The state run will be at Pasco.
Jackson Elfers of Colfax placed second in the junior high race Friday at 10:42, and Katie Largent placed sixth in the girls junior high race at 13:29.
Cardinals host, win XC tuner
Waitsburg/Prescott took the honors last Thursday with both individual wins and the lone team win in SE meet on the Waitsburg turf. The meet was the last tuner for the SE district qualifier which will be at Clarkston’s Beachview Park today. Asotin will be the hosts.
Seth Deal of the Cardinals won the boys event with a 18:14 clocking over the home course which includes the Waitsburg horse race track and cemetery. SJE’s Cody Siegel tracked Deal for the first two miles and finished just seven seconds back at 18:21.
Other finishers for the Eagles were Jason Swannak, 5th at 10:04, Caleb Rich, 7th at 19:36; Drake Hinkins, 10th at 20:01; Brad Riehle, 11th at 20:15; Dakota White, 13th at 20:30; Alex McCue, 15th at 20:58; John Quinton, 18th at 23:20; and Evan Jones, 19th at 23:46.
Waitsburg took the team honors for boys with a 22, and SJE scored 35.
Kristen Potter of WP again led the girls with a 21:53. Callie Kolb of SJE placed second at 22:25, and Megan Gfeller placed fourth at 23:40.
For the SE qualifier today, top three boys teams and first 15 finishers get an entry at the state run in Pasco. The girls have been allowed two teams and the top 10 individuals.
Deputies respond to animal complaints
Whitman deputies and the state game officer have been dispatched to a variety of animal and hunting complaints during the week. Last Thursday at 5:31 deputies received a report of a deer being chased by a pickup truck in the Reid road area which intersects with Highway 27 north of Pullman.
Deputies last Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. were advised of a horse running loose in Albion. At 8:42 a.m. they were advised of cows going through a residential yard on the Kirkendahl Road south of Pullman.
Monday at 7:55 a.m. deputies received a report of an injured deer at Colfax which had to be dispatched. At 10:01 a.m. the deputy received a report of an injured hawk on the Kitzmiller Road north of Pullman.
At 11:21 a.m. Monday the department received a report of illegal hunting on Cherry Creek Road south of Ewan in the northwest corner of the county.
