Closing out a home-at-home series with Republic, Garfield/ Palouse booked a 34-6 win up north Saturday afternoon.
“It was a great way to spend a Saturday,” said GP Coach Scott Thompson.
The Vikings used a balanced attack to topple the Tigers Saturday. Thompson credited Republic with gearing up to stop the run after last week’s game whenthe Vikings tallied 326 yards rushing in a 42-0 dismantling of Republic for homecoming at Palouse Oct. 16.
“I’ve always been a believer that if you can move it on the ground, why throw?” said Thompson.
Saturday, the Vikes notched a relatively low 151 yards rushing, but quarterback Gavin Burt filled in the gap, completing nine of his 15 passes for 196 yards.
Halfback J.B. Lange accounted for a big chunk of the aerial yardage total when he turned a quick out route into a 70-yard touchdown for GP’s first score.
Lange later added a pair of three-yard touchdown runs. He finished with 72 of the Vikings’ 151 rushing yards.
Burt also connected on scoring tosses to Wyatt Mitchell and Ben Weagraff.
The Viking defense limited Republic to 170 total yards.
GP takes this week off before hosting Colton to end the season Nov. 6. Thompson said he is excited for a matchup with the Colton, now 7-0 in the SE Eights.
“We’ve been improving every week, so it should be a good game,” he said. “They’re undefeated and have been rolling over people left and right.”
