Author’s tour includes

Nov. 9 stop at Colfax

Colfax High School Monday, Nov. 9, at 10:15 a.m. will host author David Guterson, best known for his book Snow Falling on Cedars during a stop on his “Everybody Reads” tour of the area.

He will talk about his latest novel, The Other.

This regional program is locally sponsored by the Whitman County Library, The Bookie, WEA-Eastern Washington Community Outreach and Colfax Education Association as well as corporate sponsors.

Guterson’s talk is open to the public.

Reader guides for his best seller, The Other, are available at every branch of the library and books will be available for purchase at the event.

Palouse triple event

to aid center project

A bingo night to raise funds for the Palouse Community Center will be Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Palouse Arts Council Building, at 7 p.m. Hosts will be the Palouse Lion’s Club.

Students 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

A spaghetti dinner hosted by the Boy Scouts of Palouse will be served between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. and a silent auction hosted by the Needful Things Thrift Store of Palouse begins at 5 p.m.

Proceeds from all three events will go to the Palouse Community Center project. Contact Marie Dymkoski for more information.

Cowboy poets at Dahmen

Palouse Country Cowboy Poets will be at the Dahmen Barn on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m. Orvil Sears will tell about his famous turkey.

Dick Warwick will tell about an emu and Maxine Larson will play her accordion. Other performers will include Howard Norskog, Dave Fluffs, J.B. Barber, Dave Nordiques, Lee Headwater and John Seltzer.

Custer band at Dahmen

Custer’s Grass Band will perform Saturday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. at Dahmen Barn in Uniontown. A popular Spokane based bluegrass band, Custer’s is launching a new CD album. The concert features new music and a special tribute to the music of Flatt and Scruggs. Admission will be $10 at the door.

Patchin’ People

Patchin’ People Quilt Guild meets Monday, Nov. 9, 1 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, 1015 NE Orchard Drive, Pullman. All interested in quilting are welcome. Program: Thread Painting by Sandra Martin.

UI Prichard Gallery on Main Street in Moscow will feature “Up On the Wall, 6 Painters from the West” Oct. 16 to Dec. 5. Work from painters in four states will feature diverse approaches to technique and media.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WSU visiting writers program will host poets Margo Tamez, Nov. 12, and Sarah Vap, Dec. 3l.
