Restrooms closed Monday at U.S. Army Corps of Engineers parks along the lower Snake River while crews install new pre-fabricated concrete restrooms.
Using funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the corps is installing restrooms at the south shore day-use area downstream from Little Goose Lock and Dam. Concrete restrooms will also replace the existing facilities at corps sites near Clarkston, at Greenbelt Ramp, Swallows Ramp and Chestnut Beach.
The Greenbelt, Swallows and Little Goose portion of the project should be completed near the end of January. Chestnut Beach will be finished before the summer recreation season begins.
Visitors are urged to stay clear of the construction area. Portable toilets will be set up at each of the sites during construction.
The restroom at Little Goose will be installed by CXT Inc., Spokane, at a cost of $12,941.44. CXT will also install the restrooms at the other sites. Grand total cost of the new restrooms is $200,914.
