Zachary Patrick Smith
A mass of Christian burial for Zachary Patrick Smith, 17, senior at Tekoa High School, was Monday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Tekoa High School gymnasium.
Father Mike Woods officiated at the services and a private family burial followed at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. Rosary was said Sunday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tekoa.
He died Nov. 3, 2009, near Latah.
Born Nov. 4, 1991 in Spokane, to Chris and Liz McCormack Smith, Smith was home-schooled through grade eight.
He attended Tekoa High School and was student body president this year. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tekoa, and the Tekoa – Oakesdale Future Farmers of America.
Zach loved the lake and anything outdoors. He was an avid hunter (deer, elk, turkey, and pheasant) and loved bass fishing. In school, he was active in the football, basketball and golf programs and had participated in the state golf tournament for three years. He also enjoyed tubing, wake boarding, snow mobiling, riding motorcycles and even bridge jumping.
During the summer months he worked with his family at Smith Brothers Farms.
Survivors include his parents, Chris and Liz Smith of Tekoa; his brother, Gabe Smith of Tekoa; two sisters, Christen (Cam) Blank of Tekoa, and Casey Smith, attending Carroll College in Helena, Mont .; grandparents Byron Smith of Spokane and Vern and Molly McCormack of Tekoa.

Ardith Pettibone
The memorial service for Ardith Delores Pettibone, 76, will be Nov. 21, 2009, at Bruning Funeral Home, 109 N. Mill St., Colfax, at 10:30 a.m.
She died Nov. 2, 2009 at her son’s home near Colfax.
Ardith was born Jan. 26, 1933, in Spokane. She graduated from John R. Rogers High School in 1951, as the valedictorian and a member of the National Honor Society. She attended Washington State College in Pullman where she graduated suma cum laude with degrees in computer science and mathematics.
She took a position as a programmer/supervisor at Washington State University from 1966 to 1978, and then from 1979 to 1994 she was promoted to a systems analyst/planner position.
In 1994 she worked as a project control coordinator. She retired March 1, 1998, and was enjoying her retirement in Battle Ground. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed reading, roller-blading and puzzles.
Surviving are her children, Christina Pettibone, St. Louis; Teresa Kruger. Spokane; Bruce Mathison, Colfax; Jon Mathison, Moscow; sister, Carolyn Wattenburger, West Richland; brother, Dwight Wilson, Wimberley, Texas and sister, Bonnie Landreth, Kittitas; eight grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
The family suggests that donations be made to the Family Homecare and Hospice Association.

Dennis Pool
A graveside service for Dennis Pool, 64, will be Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. John Cemetery.
Born March 26, 1945, to Richard and Merle Pool, he was a lifelong resident of Whitman County. He began farming when his father put him on a tractor at age 8. His last harvest was in 2008. He was a graduate of Lamont High School and Eastern Washington College.
Pool served many years on the Lamont Grain Growers board of directors.
He respected education and loved to read. Dennis was a past master of Sprague Lodge of F & A M and a member of Malden Lodge.
He was also a member of Malden Chapter of OES. Dennis drew great joy from participating in 4H, first as a member and later as the swine leader of St. John 4H. He served three years as the pig barn superintendent of the Spokane Junior Livestock Show and remained a lifetime member of the stock show.
In 1973, he met the love of his life. It took him a whole winter to convince her that she was meant to be a farmer’s wife. Clarice and Dennis were married on Oct. 15, 1974. In 1978, they were blessed with twins: John and Elizabeth.
Survivors include Clarice, his wife of 35 years; his son, John Richard Pool; daughter, Elizabeth Grider; his brother, Donald Pool; his mother, Merle Pool and one grandson.
The family suggests memorials be made to The Friends of the St. John Library, the St. John Fire Department or the Spokane Junior Livestock Show Foundation.
Donna May Selder
A mass of Christian burial for Donna May Selder, 76, was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DeSmet, Idaho. Rosary was said Friday evening, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. at the church.
Father Thomas Connolly, S.J. officiated. Burial followed at St. Michael’s Cemetery at Worley.
She died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, in Spokane.
Born Donna May White, July 14, 1933, in Wisconsin to William K. and Irene Flynn White, she attended schools in Wisconsin and then Riverside High School at Chatteroy, Wash.
She married Arnold Adrian in 1959 and they made their home in the Spokane-Coeur d’Alene area. They were later divorced.
Donna married Alvin Haas in 1973 and the couple made their home in the Spokane area. They were later divorced.
Donna married Lloyd Selder in Reno in the early 1980s, and the couple lived in the Conklin Park, and later settled in Spokane.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Donna enjoyed gardening and taking care of her yard. She also loved to read, entertain friends and spend time at area casinos.
Survivors include her husband Lloyd at their home in Spokane Valley; her sons, Randy Adrian of Plummer; Kevin Adrian of Wellpinit and James Haas of Fairfield; two brothers, Jack White of Cocolalla, Idaho, Kenneth White of Deer Park; her sister, Dorothy Wiese of Dalkena; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Two children, Terry and Brian Adrian, a grandchild and a great-grandchild, preceded her in death.
