Trucker Collides With Moose
Dominic Petrovich, 36, was unhurt Thursday night when he collided with a moose on Highway 27 1.5 miles south of Oakesdale. According to the Washington State Patrol report, Petrovich was traveling northbound in a 1983 Peterbilt tractor-trailer unit at 7:20 p.m. when the moose entered the highway.
Investigation Underway
Deputies are investigating the cause of extensive injuries sustained by Kristen E. Grindly, 23, recent WSU graduate who was found unconscious in a pool of blood early Wednesday morning on the Pullman-Albion Road about one mile west of Highway 27. She was discovered by a passerby at 1:40 a.m., according to a report from Sheriff Brett Myers.
She was taken to Pullman Regional Hospital and later flown to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.
Troopers Report Ice Wrecks
Icy conditions were reported Sunday and Monday in accident reports from Washington State Patrol troopers to mark an official change in the driving season.
Ann Shawley, 58, Pullman, complained of head and neck pain after she lost control of a 2001 Mazda 6000 pickup 1.13 miles west of Pullman on Highway 195. The report said Shawley was driving south at 3:41 a.m. Monday when she hit a patch of black ice. The Mazda rotated and came to a halt in the southbound ditch.
Colton Man Sentenced
Thomas W. Benson, 61, Colton resident who was charged with hitting Deputy Sgt. Donald Anderson in the face during a domestic violence arrest Aug. 27 in Colton, was sentenced to 10 days in jail Nov. 6. Benson pleaded guilty to amended charges of fourth degree assault and resisting arrest.
The arrest report on Benson said deputies had to take him to the ground when he began to struggle with them at the arrest scene. A Taser gun was used to subdue him with shots hitting him in the back and chest. Benson Friday was credited with one day served in jail and allowed to serve the balance of his sentence.
