The Colfax school board Nov. 9 voted to approved policy changes related to special meeting notices to the public. The new policies spell out the board’s existing meeting policies.
Under the new policy, the board can now call a special meeting if they provide the public via local media with a notice 24 hours in advance. For Colfax, that would probably be the Colfax Daily Bulletin, according to Supt. Michael Morgan.
Also voted in is the ability to call an emergency meeting and take official action without officially notifying the public.
Those ordinances, along with three other district ordinances on the school board meetings, were updated to align with Washington Administrative Code.
The district’s old policies were adopted in 1994. The district had policies on how to meet as a public body, but now, said Supt. Morgan, those policies are more broken down for the public to understand.
Morgan said the new ordinance will give the district an updated reference should the need arise for a special or emergency meeting.
“Our whole point is to try to update our policies to meet the new revised code of Washington,” Morgan said.
Also at the Colfax meeting, the board voted to put their old special needs bus up for sale to other school districts on a state-wide surplus list online from Dec. 9 through Dec. 16.
The district bought two new buses this year, one full-size and one for transporting special needs students.
The bus up for sale is a 1979 Chevrolet nine-passenger bus with a handicap lift. If the bus doesn’t sell on the state web site, it will go up for sale to the public in the district’s upcoming surplus sale, Dec. 18 -20.
Fifty hurdles, a heavy-duty bumper jack, and several teachers’ desks will be offered in the local sale.
