Word on the street - Nov. 19, 2009

Guinness World Record Day was last Thursday, and hundreds of thousands of people tried to break world records. Have you ever tried to set a record?

“Oh, when I was a little girl I did try to break a record. It was on the pogo stick, when that was real big. I tried to break the jump record. I practiced all summer long, and I think I got to like 350. I haven’t been able to do it in a long time, though.”

“No. I can’t say that I have.”

Would you ever make an attempt?

“Probably. If I did it would be something totally random like the world’s biggest rubber band ball.”

“No, I never have.”

Would you ever make an attempt?

“No. I really don’t think there’s any record I could break.”

“One time my wife and I, when we were in college, there was one of those octopus carnival rides for homecoming. We rode it for like eight hours. I assume we have the record on that.”
