Colfax grad Jim Rosenbeck, now a doctor in Nepii, Utah, recently sent in a correction to a Gazette account of the win over the North Central jayvee team in the homecoming game this year. The report pointed out the win was the first for Colfax over a Greater Spokane League team in 51 years.
Rosenbeck pointed out the Bulldogs defeated Mead’s junior varsity team in 1991. The score was 41-7. His e-mail noted he remembered the game well because it was his first varsity game.
The Mead-Colfax game was booked under circumstances similar to the NC-Colfax game this year. Coach Doug Curtis, now principal at LaCrosse, booked Mead-two to fill a schedule gap when another team canceled out of the original schedule.
This year, Coach Mike Morgan recruited North Central to bring down its jayvee team after Republic opted out of its 11-man schedule because of a lack of players.
Rosenbeck in 1991 was a sophomore quarterback playing behind senior QB Joel Warwick.
