Simpson UMC dedication
Simpson United Methodist Church in Pullman will rededicate its sanctuary after the completion of renovations Sunday, Dec. 6, at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. contemporary services. Upgrades include improved lighting, sound and video, updated flooring and comfortable, attractive seating.
Sacred Heart women set 27th holiday fair
The women at Sacred Heart Church in Tekoa will have their 27th annual holiday fair, Friday, Dec. 4, in the parish center at N. 805 Washington Street in Tekoa beginning at 9:30 a.m. The fair features crafters with wares such as crochet work, handmade egg ornaments and many other items.
Lunch, which will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., will include clam chowder and lentil soup, rolls, beverages, and a variety of home-style pies.
PHS senior to play at Garfield supper
Garfield United Methodist Church invites residents to a soup and bread supper next Wednesday, Dec. 9, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Special music will be provided by Lucas Kreikemeier, son of Terry and Sue Kreikemeier. A Pullman High School senior, he will play an array of guitar styles. He is currently working on a debut album, which is scheduled for completion in January.

Rivers Edge 4H group
The Colfax Rivers Edge 4H group met Nov. 19 at the home of leaders Brian and Jolene Jacobs. They made marble boards and hair ribbons to be donated to the Palouse Empire Fair auction. Their next meeting will be Jan. 15 at the city community building.

Hospital Auxiliary
Whitman Hospital Auxiliary will be have a Christmas luncheon Monday Dec. 7 at noon. The luncheon will be at the Methodist Church Social room. Please bring a food item for the food bank. Members attending must have made reservations prior to the event.
Athenaeum
The Nov. 6 meeting of Athenaeum was at the Peace Lutheran Church with Sherry Cox and Cindy Jones co-hostessing.
The group was treated to a preview of the upcoming CHS Musical, Li’l Abner. Ben May (Marryin’ Sam) and Hannah Higginson (Daisy Mae) performed “Jubilation T. Cornpone” and “I’m Past My Prime” accompanied on the piano by Melissa May. Ben gave a brief description of the play and encouraged Athenaeum members to attend.
President Lynne Bruya conducted a short meeting. Katie Schmick then introduced Pat Bailey who gave a program on the book New York’s Braves by Mary Pope Osborne. The book centers on firemen in New York City in the 1840’s. It is a children’s tale with a hero ala Paul Bunyan, that is larger than life. Ms. Osborne dedicated the book to the 9/11 firemen of New York City.
This program continues a theme this year of reviewing books that have been donated to the library by Athenaeum Club.
The co-hostesses welcomed the group to a beautifully decorated fall table with delectable treats. Next meeting will be held on Friday, Dec. 4. This will be the annual Christmas luncheon hosted by the Yearbook Committee. It will be at the Methodist Church beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Schwartz girl born
A daughter, Gracie Kay, was born Nov. 15, 2009, at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax, to Tami and Mike Schwartz. Maternal grandparents are Steve and Kay Andal, Mount Vernon. Paternal grandparents are Mick and Jackie Schwartz, Hunters. Weighing seven pounds, 13 ounces at birth, the baby joins two brothers, Wyatt, 4 and Cooper, 18 months.
Waters son born
A boy, Nicholas, was born Nov. 27, 2009, at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax, to Mindy Nobles and Curtis Waters. Weighing eight pounds, nine ounces at birth, the baby joins one brother, Wyatt.
Meserve son born
A boy, Marty James, was born Nov. 26, 2009, at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax, to Pam and Dana Meserve. Maternal grandparents are Harry and Carol Stoner, Colfax. Paternal grandparent is Shirley Meserve, Thornton. Weighing seven pounds, six ounces at birth, the baby joins one brother, Everett.

ART
UI Prichard Gallery on Main Street in Moscow will feature “Up On the Wall, 6 Painters from the West” Oct. 16 to Dec. 5. Work from painters in four states will feature diverse approaches to technique and media.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

BOOKMARK
Colfax library services and programs are now available in our temporary home at the rear of the US Bank building. We have public computers, a small collection of popular items and your favorite librarians. Call ahead or order online if you want to have your requests waiting at the desk for pickup. Book and video returns will remain in their convenient location in front of the library. The Colfax Library will continue to be open seven days a week to serve you.
The temporary children’s program area is upstairs at the US Bank building. Come in the Spring street entrance and follow the giggles and songs. Children’s Storytime programs in Colfax are each Thursday with Baby Time for ages 0-2 years from 10:10-10:30, Toddler Time for ages 2-3 from 10:30-11:00 and Preschool Time for ages 4 and up from 11-11:30.
Play and Learn Day time for infants, toddlers, young children and those who care for them is Fridays from 10-11:30. Participants are invited for the entire time, or to drop in and out as is convenient.
Third Thursday club will meet after school on December 17. Children in grades 1 – 5 are welcome to join the winter fun with stories, crafts, snacks and fun. For information about any of the library’s children’s programs, contact Sheri or Nichole at 397-4366.
