Harold Brincken
A service for Harold (Butch) Brincken, 84, retired Latah area farmer, was Monday, Dec. 7, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in the Spokane Valley. Internment was at Rosewood Cemetery near Fairfield, Monday morning. Mr.Brinken died Tuesday, Dec. 1, at the Wheatland Hills Assisted Living Center in Fairfield.
He was born June 7, 1925, to August and Rose Reifenberger Brincken on the property he continued to farm when he was grown. He attended schools at Latah and was a graduate of Latah High School. He and Jean Tunnell were married Oct. 5, 1947.
He also farmed with his brother in the Colfax area for several years. He retired from farming about nine years ago.
Survivors include wife Jean, three daughters, Linda Brincken of Spokane, Marie Gable of Latah, and Shirley Cornelius of Colfax .; one brother, Roland (Lou) Brincken of Bridgeport, Wash, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Kinion of Pasco.
Memorials can be made to Gethsemane Lutheran Church or Rosewood Cemetery.
Delbert Anderson
Graveside services for Delbert Wayne Anderson, 83, former area resident who has lived in the Warden and Othello area for the past 30 years, will be today, Thursday, Dec. 10, at 1:30 p.m. in the Colfax Cemetery. A memorial service will be Sunday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. in the Oakesdale Baptist Church.
He died Dec. 4, 2009, at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland.
Born March 15, 1926, in Moscow, to Arthur and Henrietta Anderson, he lived in Moscow, Colton and Oakesdale where he completed high school.
He attended the University of Washington for a couple of years before moving back to the family farm between Oakesdale and Garfield.
He married Mary Lee Jackson of Garfield Nov. 4, 1950.
They farmed near Oakesdale for several years before moving to the Spokane Valley where he worked mainly in sales various agri-business companies.
In the early 1980s they moved to Warden, where he raised hay, sold crop tarps and worked for Cenex.
They moved closer to Othello about 18 years ago and have been there since.
Proud of his Swedish heritage, he enjoyed studying his family history.
He was deeply committed to his Christian Faith and spent many hours immersed in the study of the scriptures.
Surviving are by his wife of 59 years, Mary, at their Othello home; five children, Erik (Lori) of Royal City; Ellen and David (Shari) both of Seattle; Joel of Othello and Kristine Anderson Cal, also Seattle; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one step-granddaughter and two step-great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by a step-granddaughter, Shannon.

Donald R. Clarke
Funeral services for Donald R. Clarke, 79, Pullman, will be Friday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Pullman Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Matthew McNelly officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Steptoe’s Bethel Cemetery with a US Army honor guard conducting military honors Mr. Clarke died late Friday evening, Dec. 4, 2009, at the Memory Villas at Bishop Place where he has resided for the past 10 years.
Born Aug. 3, 1930, at Colfax, to Anderson W. and Lina Imler Clarke, he attended school at Pullman and graduated from the Pullman High School in 1949. He joined the Army Nov. 8, 1951 and served in Korea. He was discharged as a corporal Aug. 8, 1953, and returned to Pullman where he was employed by Rima Hughes Lumber Co. as a truck driver and deliveryman for over 25 years.
In 1967, he started Don’s Janitorial Service and operated that business until 1982. He also was the janitor and gardener for Pullman Presbyterian Church and worked as janitor at the Bank of Pullman.
He was well known for the large flower and rose garden that he maintained for more than 20 years. He collected many Northwest History photos of threshing scenes and horse pulling combines. He donated many newspaper clippings to the Whitman County Historical Society.
He was a member and deacon of the Pullman Presbyterian Church, and also a member of Pullman Kiwanis Club, and the American Legion.
Surviving is a brother-in-law, Roy Brown, Pullman; 4 nephews, Sam, Andy, Kenneth and Guy Brown; great niece Allie Brown and two great nephews, Clarke and Michael Brown.

Kay Jenkins
A graveside service for Kay Blackburn Jenkins, 74, Spangle resident, was Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 11 a.m. at the Bethel Cemetery at Steptoe. She died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009 in Spokane following a sudden stroke.
Born Aug. 20, 1935, in Steptoe to Ross and Duty Blackburn, she graduated from Steptoe High School and began a long career in banking at the Bank of America in Spokane.
She married James C. Jenkins, whom she met while he was running the gas station in Steptoe, Dec. 19, 1964.
A short time later, he entered the U.S. Army and they lived in several different locations around the United States and abroad.
She worked in banks wherever they were stationed.
She also kept busy as a homemaker and mother.
His career took them to Germany twice, Korea and many other places, He retired from the Army in 1983 and they lived in Sierra Vista, Ariz., where Kay was a bank manager.
They moved to Spangle in 1991 to be closer to family.
Jim and their son, Joe, built the house that they lived in.
She enjoyed just staying home, doing the yard work, and raising flowers.
She is survived by her husband, Jim, at home; two sons, Eugene (Joe) Codd, Spangle; Michael Jenkins, .St. John; a daughter, Ellen, Portland; a brother, Delles Blackburn, Steptoe, and two sisters, Rossie Bontadelli of Knoxville, Tenn., and Sue Crawford of Lincoln, Neb.

John H. Norton
A private family graveside service for John H. Norton, 93, was Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Oakesdale Cemetery in Oakesdale. Bishop Rick Winters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Colfax Ward, officiated at the service.
Mr. Norton, a lifelong Tekoa/ Oakesdale area resident, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at the Avalon Care Center in Pullman where he had made his home for the past three months.
Born Aug. 12, 1916, at Tekoa to Thomas Hill and Henrietta Johnston Norton, he attended schools at Oakesdale and Tekoa, and graduated from Tekoa High School in 1935. He then attended Washington State College in Pullman and Eastern State College in Cheney.
He and Barbara Woods were married at Waitsburg, Jan. 25, 1948. The couple moved from Prescott to the Tekoa area in 1949 and operated the family farm between Thornton and Oakesdale for 50 years until retiring in 1999. His wife died in November of 2004.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at Colfax; the Washington Wheat Growers, the Oakesdale Grange, and a former member of the Oakesdale Odd-Fellows Lodge. He also served on the Oakesdale City Council for several years.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Norton of Oakesdale and William Norton of Phoenix, Ariz .; two daughters, Theresa (Roger) Pfaff of Garfield and Melissa (Jerry) Hanley of Palouse; siblings Henrietta Brandt, Frances Ensor, Alice Lund, Gladys Macquarrie and Dorothy Peringe; eight grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.
Memorial gifts may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Sharon Thayer
The funeral for Sharon I. Thayer, 64, Potlatch, was Monday, Dec. 7, at the Church of the Nazarene in Princeton, Idaho, with the Rev. Kathy Kramer officiating. Burial followed at the Rock Creek Cemetery in Potlatch.
She died of a heart attack last Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.
Born July 13, 1945 at St. Anthony, Idaho, to John and Vergie Thomas Roberts, she attended the Potlatch Schools and made her home at Potlatch where she raised her family. Sharon was employed at Washington State University as a custodian for about nine years.
She then moved to Spokane and started worked as a custodian at Gonzaga Prep for two years. She then was employed by Spokane Schools District 81 and worked at a Junior High School.
Survivors include three sons, Rick, Ray, and Rod Kegley, all of Spokane Valley; two daughters, Connie (Mike) Pool, Candie (Rick) McClure, both of Spokane Valley; three brothers, Jerry (Phyllis) Roberts, Harvard, Idaho; Butch Roberts, Potlatch; Mark Roberts, Vancouver; four sisters, Ruth Slack, Moscow; Donna Rae Young, Ogden, Utah; Fay Carper, Lewiston ,; Joyce Anderson, Potlatch; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the Hospice of the Palouse, 700 S. Main, Moscow, 83843.
Wilma N. Warwick
Wilma N. Warwick, 82, died Dec. 6, 2009, at Eagle Springs Specialty Care Community in College Place. A graveside service and inurnment will be at a later date in the Thornton Cemetery.
Born Jan. 21, 1927, in Thornton, to Roy and Elma Fockler Yarnell, she graduated from Oakesdale High School and attended Spokane Community College.
She and Robert Warwick were married in 1945 at Spokane. She owned and managed a restaurant in Oakesdale for15 years and was also a bookkeeper for a John Deere dealership and insurance company. She and Mr. Warwick later divorced.
In 1990, she and Bryce Johnson married in Canada. Following retirement, they enjoyed traveling, spending the winters in Arizona and summers in Canada. Mr. Johnson preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Jerry) Kjack, Walla Walla; three sons Steve (Debbie) Warwick, Colfax; Jim (Jolene) Warwick, Spokane, and Terry (Rochelle) Warwick, Carnation; a brother, Ken (Carolyn) Yarnell, Tacoma; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
