Spartans run mark to 6-0 on big win over Vikings

Jim Maley picked up 21 points and 14 rebounds to power a fourth-quarter Rosalia charge Tuesday night that sank Garfield/Palouse 55-35. The win kept Rosalia’s perfect record intact at 6-0.

Up by five points at the end of the third quarter, the Spartans big front line, led by Maley and Junior Nathan Richards, held the Vikings to just three points while putting up 18 of their own.

Richards added 13 points. Gavin Burt led Viking scorers with 12, and Blake Slocum added 10 points, six rebounds and two assists.

At Lind Tuesday night, the Lind-Ritzville Broncos rolled over the Tigercats early on the way to a 79-43 win. LR broke out of the gate with a 27-7 first quarter.

Jeff Zimmer put up 20 for the T-cats and Jed Zimmer added 12.

Tuesday’s game between St. John/Endicott and Colton was called off and rescheduled for Feb. 2.

Saturday night, the Tigercats who jumped out to a quick 12-2 first quarter lead over Pomeroy. The host Pirates closed the gap with a hot fourth quarter to force overtime, but Jeff Zimmer powered the ‘cats in the extra frame to give LW a 52-47 win.

Zimmer finished the game with 17 points, and Justin Aune added 15.

Rosalia’s Maley and Richards combined for 34 Saturday when the Sparts rolled over visiting Tri-Cities Prep, defending state 1B champs, 71-50.

Maley knocked down 22 points and 11 rebounds Friday, as the Spartans plundered host Asotin 69-50.

Viking Lee Roach Friday knocked down 14 points and booked 14 rebounds in GP’s 44-25 win over host Tekoa/Oakesdale. Drake Hinkins topped the Nighthawks with nine points.

Saturday at Asotin the Nighthawks went into the half-time break with a 12-point lead, but lost their stroke in the second half, eventually falling to the Panthers 43-40. Asotin’s Matt Turner heated up from behind the arc in the second half, knocking down nine of his game-high 14 points. Drake Hinkins led the T/O charge with 12.

Colton grabbed its first win Friday night, riding Josh Straughan and Spencer Jacobs to a 73-39 over visiting LaCrosse/Washtucna. Straughan and Jacobs put up 19 points each, and the Wildcats singed the nets with a fiery 39 in the- second quarter.

The wheels fell off St. John/Endicott’s offense in the second half Friday night against visiting Pomeroy. The Eagles staked a 32-25 lead at the half, but Pomeroy stormed out of the locker room, riding Justin Ruark’s hot hand to a 43-18 second half advantage to polish off the Eagles 68-50. Cole McCanna’s 17 points topped SJE. Ruark finished with 19 and 11 rebounds.
