Colton tops Pomeroy in emotional win

One day after a memorial service for Colton science teacher Glenn Voshell was held in the high school gym, the Wildcats hit the hardwood hard and picked apart visiting Pomeroy 70-57 Friday night.

Josh Straughan’s 24 points led Colton, as the ‘cats turned up the heat in the third quarter. Straughan added 11 assists, and Dustin Patchen chipped in a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds.

The Wildcats followed up Friday’s emotional win with a strong effort Tuesday against visiting Genesee, but came up short, 58-69.

The Bulldogs put up a 24-10 advantage in the final frame.

Straughan again topped Colton with 19 points. Alan Berry put up 23 points, and teammate Sam Hermann added 21 to lead the Bulldogs.

Also Tuesday, Rosalia’s Jim Maley and Nathan Richards combined for 33 points to lead Rosalia to a 66-40 road win over Cusick. The twin towers tallied 14 of their points in a 21-4 first quarter charge that put the game out of reach early. Zach St. John added 10.

Saturday, Rosalia took the tip-off, scored and never trailed again, waxing host Touchet 62-28. The Spartans put the game away with an 18-4 first quarter.

Friday, Garfield/ Palouse followed tip-off with a smothering defense that held visiting Asotin to just three first quarter points and caged the Panthers the rest of the way for a 60-46 win Friday.

Gavin Burt led with 25 points and had six steals J.B. Lange and Blake Slocum each chipped in 11 for the Vikes, who moved their record to 4-1.

Tekoa/Oakesdale fell victim to the host Pomeroy Pirates who booked a 7-0 run in the final minutes to close out a 53-51 win. Pomeroy powered its late charge by hitting five toss shots.

Earl Gaines led TO scorers with 15, and Drake Hinkins chipped in 12. Trevor Koberstein’s 14 topped the Pirates.

Hinkins led the Nighthawks Friday night, as TO put down LaCrosse/Washtucna 61-34 in the Tekoa gym. Hinkins had 28 points. Jeff Zimmer had 18 points to top LW scorers.

The LaCrosse nets were not friendly to the home town Tigercats Tuesday night, and visiting Asotin took advantage of LaCrosse/Washtucna’s cold shooting to post a 58-18 win.

Jeff Zimmer and Chris Wargo topped six T-cat scorers with nine points apiece. Panther Ben Servatius led all scorers with 17 points.

St. John/Endicott fell hard in the fourth quarter Thursday night in Pasco, as Tri-Cities Prep outscored the Eagles 17-10 in the fourth quarter to book a 53-50 win.

Cole McCanna and Dylan Schmick put up 12 points apiece to top Eagle scorers.
