Serving Whitman County since 1877
Identical southward views of Main Street Colfax show the stark difference a year can make. At left is Main Street at the end of 2009, showing pavement left bare by the thus-far mild winter weather. Contrasting is the picture at right, showing Main Street traffic gnarled as a gigantic snow berm in the middle of the street narrowed traffic to one lane in each direction. Road crews logged weeks of consecutive 12-hour days to keep roads passable across the county last year. This year’s mild weather has kept those crews in the shop, catching up on repair work deferred by the past two winters of record snowfall.
