WSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine is attempting to locate the owner of a goat found wandering around the Pullman area. The goat was turned over to the university after it was found near Airport Road Dec. 17. The young goat is in excellent health and friendly. Attempts to locate the rightful owners have been unsuccessful and the university is now going public in an attempt to locate the owners.
Like the nation’s other 28 veterinary colleges, WSU often finds itself with lost, abandoned or seized animals. Finding the owner or in some cases a new owner can be costly and time consuming. An example is in the recent past when WSU had to find owners for two alligators seized by local law enforcement.
Abandoned animals are regulated under the Washington state law which defines an abandoned animal and the length of time and methods of disposal as with any abandoned property. An abandoned animal could even go to a sheriff’s sale and be sold to new owners.
Anyone who believes they may have lost a goat is welcome to call the WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital’s Large Animal Section, 509-335-5377, describe the animal and claim ownership.
