Karlyn Krista Pennell and Douglas Calvin Swinney were united in marriage Saturday, July 11, 2009, in an evening ceremony at Garfield Christian Church in Garfield with Pastor Phil Weagraff officiating. An elegant dinner and dance reception followed at Moscow University Inn.
On the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner at Fireside Grill in Pullman was hosted by the groom’s parents.
Karlyn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Pennell of Garfield. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bert Tribbett of Garfield and the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom Pennell of Colfax. Doug is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Swinney of Palouse. He is the grandson of Cleo Swanson and the late Morton Swanson of Palouse, Frances Luymes of Canada, the late Ramona Swinney and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Swinney of Potlatch.
Caroline Germain, friend of the bride and groom provided the music.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride selected an exquisite strapless, white taffeta gown. The dress was accented with a sweetheart neckline, long fitted bodice and delicately beaded appliqué. To complete her ensemble, she chose a double tiered veil with silver edging. The bride carried a bouquet of white roses that were wrapped in a delicate lace handkerchief given to her by her late maternal grandmother.
Aimee Krueger, college friend of the bride, served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Tasha Gehring, sister of the groom, Genna Palmer, life-long friend of the bride and Sarah Meeker, college friend of the bride. Each attendant wore matching black chiffon, tea length dresses with a strapless, pleated sweetheart neckline.
They carried bouquets of roses in shades of fuchsia and poppy orange.
Flower girls were Ashlin and Baylin Havelin, cousins of the groom. Emily Dixon, cousin of the bride, Angela Cronk and Jennifer Cronk, friends of the bride, were the bride’s house attendants. Gerik Kimble, lifelong friend of the groom, served as the groom’s best man.
Groomsmen were John Gehring, brother-in-law of the groom, Moses Boone and Kevin Jordan, lifelong friends of the groom.
A graduate of Garfield-Palouse High School, the bride received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Washington State University. She is currently teaching in the Garfield-Palouse School District.
The groom, also a graduate of Garfield- Palouse High School, received a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Systems Management with a minor in Agricultural Business from the University of Idaho. He is employed with Slon-Acres Farms.
Following a honeymoon to Maui, the newlyweds now reside in Palouse.
