Deputies respond to seat cushion call

Whitman County sheriff’s office opened the new year checking out a suspicious object found in the yard of a residence on the Old Moscow Road east of Pullman. At 8:10 p.m. New Year’s Day, Dep. Brian Keller responded after the homeowner reported an item that looked like a tank with a wire sticking out of it in his driveway.

After investigating, Dep. Keller determined the item was a styrofoam filling that appeared to be from a seat cushion. Attached to the styrofoam was a tail light. Wiring from the tail light was sticking into the air, appearing in the dark to be a fuse.
