Schools ask to hike levy rates in face of state funding crunch

Colfax School District is asking taxpayers to provide insurance in case the state legislature cuts a major portion of its funding during the upcoming supplemental session.

The District will seek an increase of more than 39 percent in its special levy request over the next two years.

Voters will be asked to approve a maintenance and operations levy of $1.3 million for each of the next two years, up from the $930,000 2010 levy.
