Dusty
Dusty area was inundated with a gully washer on New Year’s Day. Close to an inch of rain fell in about 20 minutes resulting in water and mud running over the highway, washing out lanes and depositing mud in sheds and other locations.
Last year it was snow up to the hindquarters, and this year it’s mud up to the ankles.
Early guests for Christmas at the Dick and Helen Appel home were Phil Appel, Spokane; and Sabrina Appel, Salem. Joining them Christmas Eve were Susan Appel, Pullman; Caroline, Rob, Zack, Kade, Ellie and Lucien Kunkel, Pullman.
Christmas Day guests joining the rest of the family were Lisa, Travis, Marian and Rachel Frei, Colfax; Marilyn and Kevin Frei, Spokane; Neil, Tara, Josh, Emi and Isaac Appel, Dusty; Deb, Bob, Jessica, Alissa and Scot Stavig, Brush Prairie; Steve, Dianne and Peter Appel, Dusty; and Dave and Alice Appel, Colfax. Barb, Bruce, Beth, Kate and Joanne Wollstein, Lacey, arrived to help with the annual Appel hog butchering Dec. 26.
Ian and Lisa DeNolfo and Joe and Alex, Bryn Mawr, Pa., visited relatives, Gary and Diane Monson and family, Craig Willson and Lucille Willson, and friends from Dec. 22 through Jan. 4. Sunday, Ian and Lisa provided special music at the Country Bible Church’s morning worship services. Both are professional opera singers. Becky Camp gave the message.
Pastor Floyd Overstreet will be back at the pulpit next Sunday.
Phyllis Stueckle is at home recovering from open heart surgery last week. She had an aortic valve replaced with an artificial valve. She arrived home to recuperate Monday afternoon.
Tami and Wesley Banks were Saturday visitors of Linda Hennigar.
Colene Sager returned home Monday after traveling to Irvine, Calif., for a friend’s son’s wedding New Year’s Day. She stayed with her sister-in-law, Ken and Janice Williams, Huntington Beach. Jan. 2. They took a tour of the Queen Mary on Sunday and enjoyed 75 degree weather.
Monday, Carol Kyllo attended a breakfast hosted by Roberta Cox. Other guests included Jeannine Larkin, Cindy Wigen, Verna Stephenson, Kay Krom, Judy Aune and Ann Emerson.
Dusty B.B. Club will meet at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Parish Hall in LaCrosse Tuesday, Jan. 12 to make baby blankets for the Sacred Heart Free Maternity Clinic in Spokane. Hostesses will be Janelle Guske and Fran Maki. Roll call is to bring donations for the FISH food bank.
