Cochran, Nichols place 2nd at Yule mat show

Colfax Bulldogs finished up with 53 points last Wednesday to place seventh at the Pomeroy Christmas Tournament. Kittitas wrestlers rolled all the way from the middle of the state and stacked up an impressive 224 points to take the team honors. The K club took seven weight championships.

Host Pomeroy finished with 182 team points and three championships for second place.

The Bulldogs were scheduled to depart today for Reardan to compete in an NE League meet and Saturday they are booked in the Warden Invitational.

St. John/Endicott finished with 23 points led by a second place finish by senior Jesse Nichols. He picked up a first-round pin over Barney Ferguson of Wilbur-Creston-Kellogg in the semi round and then battled with Nate Poulsen of Kittitas before being stopped in the second round.

Ben Cochran of Colfax pegged a second-round pin over Jeff Warren of Pomeroy in the heavyweight class and then ran into Sergio Fuentes of Kittitas in the championship round. Fuentes took the title with a first round pin.

Cody Evans was derailed by Jon Atchley of Pomeroy in the second round of the 125 class and battled with the Pirate again in the consolation final. Atchley scored a second pin in the final seconds of the match to place third and Evans finished fourth.
