Big swing in road foes takes toll on Bulldogs

Colfax girls ran into a buzz saw Saturday night at Reardan in a battle of the Bi-County undefeateds. The host Indians posted a 52-43 win to stop the Colfax string.

Colfax faced the cranked up Reardan team after taking a 62-9 win at Odessa in one of the matchups with a District 7 1B team.

Coach Corey Baerlocher said a lot of the problem for Colfax Saturday was shaking off the slack from the Othello trip and getting in tune for the high-flying Reardan team.

“They were ready for us, and we weren’t ready for them,” Baerlocher noted.

Colfax again had problems with turnovers with 23 in the first half and 44 overall.

Reardan had 33 turnovers for the game.

“They came out with an aggressive, physical game and really caught us off guard,” Baerlocher noted.

The Indians were led by two freshmen, Kelsey Moos and Chantel Heath. Moos hit 22 and Heath hit 17.

Baerlocher said Moos, who has logged extensive AAU experience, also took a toll with her floor game. She is able to see the floor and find open shooters.

Big statistic setback for the Bulldogs was at the toss line where they hit just 6 to 16.

Kayla Johnson, who hit all her points from the floor, led the Bulldogs with 10 points.

Colfax made the Reardan trip after rolling up the 62-9 win at Odessa.

Baerlocher played the Bulldog varsity as a unit for roughly eight minutes against the Tiger hosts. Colfax had 16 players on the bench and all those players rolled up floor time in the runaway.

“It was just an unfortunate matchup,” Baerlocher noted.

As a footnote, Wilbur/Creston’s Wildcats, slated to visit here Friday in a varsity only event, have been defeated by the same Odessa team.
