Farmers fest set June 19; class books comedy at pit

LaCrosse Business Association met at the TeaPot Cafe Jan 13. The main topic of discussion was Santa and how his visit went in December. More than 50 kids came to visit and have a light breakfast of muffins and juice. Overall it appeared the day went well.

Farmers Festival date for 2010 was confirmed as June 19. The Business Association will not meet again until April when plans will begin for the festival.

The High School drama class will present a three- act comedy, “January Thaw,” Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. and Jan. 22 at 12:15 p.m. The play will be presented in the pit and admission is free.

Charles (Chuck) Curtis, former resident of Hay was interred at the Hay cemetery Sunday morning, Jan. 17. Larry Curtis led the private family service with Larry Splater concluding with a prayer. A memorial was Jan. 16 at the First Baptist Church in Lewiston.

The family gathered at the home of Dan and Jeannine Larkin after the memorial for a luncheon.

Present were, Mrs. Joan Curtis, Durand Splater, Larry Splater, Lester Splater, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Curtis, Mr. and Mrs. Casey Curtis and daughters, Kelly Morasch and Jake, Mark and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Tyke Curtis, Mr. and Mrs. Gordy Dekraii, Mr. and Mrs. Blake O’Brien and Patrick, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Lettenmeier, Tamara Curtis, Mr. and Mrs. Todd Curtis and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hiebert, Dennis Moore, Aileen Henley, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Evans and Cole, Mr. and Mrs. Lucas Curtis, Tara Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Martin and Mr. and Mrs. Robbie Pierson joined the group later in the afternoon.

Junior High Volleyball season has begun. The girls will play Tekoa/Oakesdale today, Jan. 21, in Washtucna beginning at 4:30.

The FFA is selling enchiladas in pans of six or three. If interested, call the school.

Saturday morning basketball will meet Jan. 23, 8 to 10 a.m. for boys and girls 4th, 5th and 6th grade; 9 to 10:30 a.m. for Pre-K through 3rd grade.

LaCrosse 4H club held its January meeting last week. The first five demonstrations were presented by Ashtyn Aune, Madison Harder, Lexi Hopkins, Jimmy Hopkins and Lindsey Miller. The club currently needs project leaders for sheep, alpacas and goats. It would require 4H leader training, etc. If interested, call Stacy Aune or Kim Berquist.

This year, the 4H party will be ice skating in Moscow Jan. 23.

Caleb Hannas attended the 4H meeting last week on behalf of FFA. He is selling five-dollar raffle tickets to benefit the Spokane Junior Livestock Show. Anyone interested in buying a raffle ticket to win either a western saddle or $1,000 dollars can call Caleb or Sharon Hannas.
