PCT starts logo contest

Pullman Civic Theatre is conducting a logo design contest. The winning design will be displayed on their website and promotional materials. The winner will receive a T-shirt with their logo printed on it and season tickets. Two runners up will also be named. Contest deadline to submit entries electronically will be May 31.

Repps attend food show

Randy and Debbi Repp of St. John recently attended the 2010 Fancy Food Show at Moscone Center in San Francisco. The show focuses on specialty gift and gourmet foods from around the world. Debbi’s experience included meeting Tyler Florence, Ina Garten and Michael Chiarello from the Food Network. She said they look forward to stocking a special line of Florence’s preparations in their St. John shop, A La Carte Gourmet-to-Go, Gifts & Home Decor.

Good News Club

Colfax residents Ethan and Theresa Adams are hosting a weekly Good News Club at the library of Jennings Elementary in Colfax. Children of all ages are invited to join for Bible lessons, games and prizes. The club meets Mondays (except holidays) from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Children who want to participate must come with a parental permission form, which can be picked up on the shelf next to the main office in Jennings Elementary, or can be obtained directly from Ethan and Theresa Adams.

Patchin’ People

Patchin’ People of Pullman will welcome all quilters to its Monday, Feb. 8, meeting at 1:30 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, 1015 NE Orchard Drive, across from Beasley Coliseum in Pullman. They will be having a “potlatch” where everyone has the opportunity to clean out and share your treasures with others. Bring items to trade or sell. Left over items can be taken to a Thrift Shop.

Kile son born

A boy, Devin Randy, was born Jan. 21, 2010 at Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane, to Ken and Jessica Kile of Pine City. Maternal grandparents are Charles and Julie Pittmann, Rosalia. Paternal grandparents are Randy and Beverly Kile, Pine City. Great-grandmothers are Blanche Kile, Spokane and Helen Jordan, Cheney. Weighing six pounds, nine ounces at birth, he is the couple’s first child.

MUSIC

WSU’s Jazz Big Band and VoJazz, a vocal jazz ensemble, will present a jazz concert Feb. 9 at 8 p.m. in Kimbrough Concert Hall. The band is currently under the direction of Dave Snider, jazz bass instructor, while Gregory Yasinitsky is on sabbatical leave.

WSU VoJazz, under the direction of Kathleen Hollingsworth, will perform selections by Miles Davis, The Real Group and an original gospel-influenced arrangement of “This Little Light of Mine,” arranged by Hollingsworth.

The concert is free to the public.

WSU Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band kick off a weekend of performances with a concert of classic and contemporary selections at 8 p.m. Feb. 11 in Bryan Hall Theatre. The concert is free and open to the public.

For the Wind Symphony, conducted by Timothy Robblee, this concert will serve as the beginning of a tour to Yakima to perform at the Washington Music Educators Association State Conference.

The Wind Symphony will be joined on the Feb. 11 concert by the WSU Symphonic Band directed by David Turnbull, who will share the podium with three graduate student conductors.

WSU School of Music’s concert by mezzo-soprano Sheila K. Converse has been rescheduled for Feb. 23 at 8 p.m. in Bryan Hall Theatre. She will be accompanied by pianist Meg Kelley and by WSU’s faculty members Ruth Boden, cello, and Meredith Arksey, violin and viola.

This concert is free and open to the public, and will include folk songs arranged by Beethoven, Britten, Quilter and Copland.

DRAMA

The WSU Department of Theatre and Dance production of “The Glass Menagerie” concludes this week, Feb. 4 to Feb. 6.
