Sprague honors Kay Dirks

Lamont

Kay Dirks, a person who was raised and spent most of her life in the Lamont area, was made Citizen of the Year in Sprague at the Sprague Chamber of Commerce Banquet recently. Upon retirement from farming, she and her husband, Clinton, moved to Sprague. She taught in the Sprague Schools and when she retired from teaching, she served on the Sprague-Lamont School Board for some time.

She was very active of the Lincoln County Habitat for Humanity, helped organize and maintain the community garden and is a member of the Red Hat Ladies. She supported the food bank and Christmas food and gift drive and she is always ready to give aid and support to those in the community who need it. She has planted flowers in the flower bed around the Community Center, worked hard to make Sprague Days a success, and assisted in the Sprague library. She served as the Worthy Matron in the Order of Eastern Star and was an Advisor for the Rainbow Girls. Many of the activities that happen in Sprague, would not have happened with the willing hand of Kay Dirks to help.

A community potluck will be Sunday, Feb. 7, at the Lamont Community Center beginning at 1 p.m. with all invited. There will be a TV for the sports fans to watch the Super Bowl.

Lamont Community was saddened with the news that Earl Colyar had died. He and Erma retired from farming and moved to Spokane in 1979. He gave much to the Lamont Community in the 47 years he farmed in the area. Besides raising three children, he served on the Lamont School Board, Lamont Grain Growers Board, held many offices in the Lamont Grange and attended the Lamont Community Church. He was involved in The Masons, The Shriners, The Eastern Star, and Rainbow for Girls. In passing Earl left his wife, Erma, his three children, grandchildren, great-grand children, one brother, nieces and nephews and many friends in the area.
