Colfax girls bag first on big revenge win

Colfax girls Friday night came out of the gate like a rocket on the way to big 73-49 revenge win over Reardan to take the top slot in the Bi-County 2B race. The teams went into the final round at Colfax with one loss each. Colfax was ambushed 43-52 at Reardan in the first round, and Reardan was dropped the same week by Lind/Ritzville.

Friday’s loss to Colfax left Reardan at 10-2 in the final standings.

Both teams were on the sidelines Tuesday while the league’s third through sixth place finishers battled to stay in the running. The action now goes to Reardan for two rounds of league playoffs for seeding in the District 7 state qualifier.

Colfax will start in a semi-final round of the playoff tonight at 5 p.m., against Northwest Christian, a 37-32 winner Tuesday over Northwest Christian.

Reardan will face Lind/Ritzville, a 33-31 winner over Valley Christian.

Thursday’s winners and losers will collide at 6 back at Ritzville The losers round will be a Smith gym.

Colfax Friday roared out to a 38-17 half-time lead before another charged up Colfax crowd. The Bulldog girls dropped five three-pointers in the first half. They put down 25 points in the second quarter.

Colfax had a 22-11 lead with 5:26 left in the half. It went to 33-14 at 2:35 with Rachel Johnson, who led Colfax with 22, taking a steal and lancing a lay-up. Rachel, who found a lane to the hoop through Reardan’s defense most of the night, went to the bench at one point in the third quarter after hitting the court.

Reardan girls steadied up after the break and kept pace with the Bulldogs but they were unable to melt down the first-half lead.

The Indians sustained a setback at the toss line, hitting just 8 of 19. Kelsey Moos, who dropped 22 points against Colfax in the first round, again led the chiefs, this time with 15 points.
