A year that started with a projected $29,000 surplus ended with a $112,853 deficit, as Whitman County’s general fund felt the effects of the Great Recession.
Sagging interest revenue and low sales tax collections took a serious hit out of the county’s income stream, but officials in departments across the county sliced their spending to counter the drop.
