Junior Miss slates at-large program

Washington’s Junior Miss 2010 at-large competition will be April 11 in Pullman.

High school junior girls interested should register by March 5. Margo Balzarini, program co-chair, said those who would like to compete in the at-large program must be U.S. citizens, plan to graduate from high school in 2011, and have a 3.3 grade point average.

During the at-large competition, each girl will be required to perform a 90-second talent number and participate in fitness and self expression routines that will last up to eight minutes.

Each girl will perform the self expression routine dressed in a formal and be expected to answer an impromptu question. The routines will be taught to everyone on the day of the competition, Balzarini said.

Those selected to represent their communities will participate in the state competition Aug. 4-7 at WSUs Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum. Those chosen from the at-large program also will be required to pay a $250 participation fee that is charged to all local programs.

The at-large program offers a chance for girls who reside in communities without local Junior Miss programs to qualify for the state event.

Towns which have scheduled Junior Miss programs to date include Pullman, March 6; Royal City and Buckley, March 13; Leavenworth, March 15; Chewelah, Colfax, Connell-N. Franklin, all March 20; Colton-Uniontown and Clarkston, March 27; Davenport, April 3; Moses Lake, April 10; Reardan-Edwall, April 11, and Mattawa, April 17.
