K-bowl team places third

Oakesdale

Oakesdale High School Knowledge Bowl Team placed third at District competition and qualified for state competition. Members of the team include Drake Hinkins, Alisa Jones, Cora Fisher, Jeffrey DeGon, Danielle Jones and Trevor Renstrom. They will compete March 27 at West Valley High.

The combo of Anna Mills, Jeffrey DeGon, and Michael Conklin performed at the University of Idaho’s Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival Feb. 27. The competition this year used a rubric based scoring technique and their combo score sheet had numerous outstanding assessments. Michael performed with a Pullman combo and received an adjudicator’s commendation. He also received high recognition for his solo performance.

George Dewan was named “Fireman of the Year” at the annual Fireman’s dinner Monday night.

Last fall, Oakesdale School District applied for a grant from the Libri Foundation, a group which assists rural libraries. The school has announced that they received a grant of $1,400 to put towards a new book collection. Teachers of all grade levels and subject areas were able to select books that have just arrived and will soon be added to the school library.

Oakesdale Senior class, along with advisor Brenda McFarling, have begun making the plans for their senior trip to Hawaii this year.

Bridge club was hosted by Donna Fisher at her home at the Hill Ray in Colfax. Winning high prize was Darlene Rickett, Second high Theresa Lohman, Traveling Wanda Brown, Bingo Patty Johnson and Low Marvel Ebert. Nina Gregory will host it on March 17 at the museum.
