Serving Whitman County since 1877
Lamont
Members of the Lamont Community Church served at the eastbound rest area recently. Upon investigation, the secretary of the Ladies Guild, Bonnie Swannack, found they have served there twice a year since 1990 and never missed the days assigned by the State Department of Transportation. When the group started doing this, it was necessary for them to make their own shelters because it was in the cold weather and too cold to be without some protection.
Now, the state has installed a very adequate room with heaters, hot water and electricity.
Coffee and homemade cookies are given out by donation.
All the money made by this group is used to support missionaries in foreign countries. People who worked over the three days were Denny and Linda O’Keefe, Dave and Ginny Rajala, Diane and Allen Cook, Earl Swift, Bonnie Swannack, Sherill and Don Nelson, Shawn Wright and Howdy Smith and Dan and Jean Stromberger.
Jean Stromberger flew to Boise last Friday for a three day visit with her daughter, Nancy, and her husband, Eldon Wecker and their families.
Saturday, Dan Stromberger drove to Spokane to attend the 90th birthday party of his sister, Hannah Kapelke. Present were many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Some he had not seen for a long time.
Kaye Bailey’s granddaughter, Sarah Gant, spent the weekend with her at the ranch. On Saturday, Kaye, Sarah, Jennifer Larson and Holli Bafus drove to Pullman to attend the Pullman Junior Miss competition at the Gladish Community Cultural Center. Kaye’s niece, Shannon Hatley’s daughter, Morgan Hatley, was one of the 15 participants.
Betty Stone, Nita Polda and Kathy Shields played pinochle Monday evening at the home of Anita Frederick in Sprague. Nita won the galloper.
