Cletis Ball
A memorial service for Cletis (Dick) Ball, 92, was Friday, March 12, at Grace Lutheran Church in Potlatch. Rev. Larry Veith officiated. Cremation preceded the services. His ashes will be buried at the Mendenhall Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Ball died last Tuesday morning, March 9, 2010, at Good Samaritan Village in Moscow where he had resided for one week. He had been in failing health for the past two years.
He was born July 17, 1917, at Kearney, Neb., to Frank and Ella Lena Pierce Ball. His parents were not able to care for him during the dust bowl era and he was raised by George and Elizabeth Krumback since the age of four. He attended school at Riverdale, Neb. and graduated from Riverdale High School in 1935.
Dick later hitchhiked to Palouse where he worked for area farmers. He also was a mechanic at the Chevrolet garage in Palouse for a several years.
He married Loreene Atkison in August of 1940. The couple made their home at Palouse. In 1948 they purchased a small farm in the Crane Creek area north of Potlatch. After he retired they enjoyed wintering in Yuma, Ariz.
He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church since 1954 and a member of the Idaho Grain Producers.
Survivors include three sons, Richard Ball, Post Falls; Ronald Ball, Hayden; Don Ball, Potlatch; one daughter, Patty Nirk, Wenatchee; six grandchildren and 12 great–grandchildren. Bradley Cornilles
A funeral for Bradley Cornilles, 57, former Colfax resident who has resided in Elko, Nev., for the past 22 years, will be March 27 at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Colfax. He has been cremated and cremains will be buried in the Colfax Cemetery.
Mr. Cornilles died unexpectedly Feb. 28, 2010, in Marana, Ariz., where he had been visiting family members.
Born Feb. 12, 1953, in Nampa, Idaho, to Gordon and Jean Hindberg Cornilles, he moved with his family to Colfax and attended schools here. A member of the 1972 class of Colfax High School, he attended Spokane Community College and later worked for Washington State University.
He later moved to New Mexico where he was employed in mining. He and Rhonda Gillaspy were married Jan. 20, 1981, at Gallup, N.M. They moved to Colfax in March of 1983 and he was employed at the Whitman County Public Works, Dept. They moved to Elko five years later and both were employed for Newmont Mining Corp. He retired four years ago because of medical problems and spent a lot of his retirement time caring for grandchildren. He enjoyed working in his yard, keeping pets, golfing, four-wheeling, fishing, camping and making annual trips to the Jarbidge Mountains.
His father, Gordon Cornilles, resides in Colfax. Also surviving are his wife, Rhonda, Elko; four children, Jason Cornilles, Marana, Ariz., Nathan (Amanda) Cornilles, Eagle River, Alaska; Martha (Tom) Copling, Spring Creek, Nev .; and Nichole Cornilles, Twin Falls, Idaho; a sister, Deb St. Clair, Spokane, and a brother, Cory, El Paso, Texas; and eight grandchildren.
Jack Merle Brauhn
Jack Merle Brauhn, 69, Endicott, died Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Whitman Health & Rehabilitation Center in Colfax. Family graveside services will take place at a later date and a public service is not planned.
Born Sept. 13, 1940, in Yakima to Richard and Vera McDonald Brauhn, he grew up in Washington and Oregon and was proud of his Blackfoot Indian heritage. He married Alice Elizabeth Bofman Sept. 9, 1961. The have resided in Endicott for 22 years.
Throughout his life, he worked at a variety of occupations. He especially enjoyed cowboying and truck driving. He also enjoyed doing a variety of artwork.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Alice, at their home in Endicott; their son David Lee Brauhn; four grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; four brothers and four sisters.

Terry M. Schell
A memorial service for Terry M. Schell, 59, Pullman, was Saturday, March 13, at 3 p.m. at the Palouse Federated Church with the Rev. Corey Laughary officiating. He has been cremated.
Mr. Schell died Tuesday, March 9, 2010.
Born Aug. 12, 1950, at Moscow, to Eugene D. and Elizabeth R. Billings, he attended the Palouse schools and graduated from Palouse High School with the class of 1969.
He studied body and fender repair at Spokane Community College. In 1971, he opened Terry’s Body and Fender in Palouse and operated it for two years. He then went to work for Moscow Body and Glass in Moscow from 1973 unitl 1978.
He married Sandra Gregg in 1975 and they were later divorced.
In 1978, Terry began working for the United Parcel Service and worked for the company for 10 years. He married Linda Drader Nov. 1, 1980, at Pullman. They couple made their home in Pullman. They were later divorced.
In 1989 to present time, Terry was employed at Pullman Disposal and was a route manager for the company at the time of his death.
Since 1993, he had been employed on weekends as a bus driver for Wheatland Express.
A former member of the Palouse Lions Club, Mr. Schell enjoyed boating, water skiing, four-wheeling and supporting Cougar football.
Survivors include three sons, Randy (Bevin) Schell, Fife; Donald and Kerry Schell, both of Pullman; one sister, Kathrine Casey, Tacoma, and two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by one son, Keith D. Schell.
The family suggests memorials go to Palouse Community Center building fund, Box 23, Palouse, 99161 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Thomas Zaring
The funeral for Thomas Paul Zaring, 84, retired LaCrosse area farmer and long-time Colfax resident, was Monday morning in the chapel of Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial was at the LaCrosse Cemetery with a luncheon following at the LaCrosse United Methodist Church.
Mr. Zaring died early last Thursday morning, March 11, 2010, at Whitman Health & Rehab Center in Colfax.
Born July 10, 1925, in Baker, Ore., to Paul and Effie Zaring, he grew up on the family ranch between Dusty and LaCrosse and graduated from LaCrosse High School with the class of 1943.
He and Dolores Korsvold were married in Baker, Ore., Oct. 1, 1946, and they made their home on the farm for many years before moving into Colfax in 1960. Tom continued farming until health issues forced him to slow down about 15 years ago. His first wife, Dolores died Oct. 25, 1982. Tom married Virginia Jewett of Spokane July 11, 1983. Virginia died in November of 2005.
He was also a member of the former Colfax Elks, the LaCrosse Gun Club and the LaCrosse United Methodist Church. He enjoyed wintering in Arizona
Surviving are two daughters; Kathy Clark and Lynn Knott, both of Colfax; his brother, William K. Zaring, LaCrosse; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; step-children, Cliff Jewett and Cindy Owens both of Spokane, John Jewett, Yakima, and Don Jewett of Everett; seven step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren and his very special friend, Joyce Appel.
The family suggests memorials go to the LaCrosse United Methodist Church or Country Bible Church at Dusty.

Rosa Altergott
Rosa E. Altergott, 102, a resident of Clarkston, died Monday, March 15, 2010, at Clarkston Care Center. Services are pending with Merchant Funeral Home in Clarkston.
Mrs. Altergott and her last husband, Herb, farmed for many years between Palouse and Colfax. She was a teacher at the former Eden Valley School and former students honored her at Clarkston on her 100th birthday.
Melvin Ingalls
A private family service for Melvin L. Ingalls, 75, resident of Palouse since 1977, will be Friday, March 19, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the Palouse Federated Church with the Rev. Corey Laughary officiating. Mr. Ingalls died Sunday evening, March 14, 2010, at Pullman Regional Hospital.
