Former Dusty residents get birthday celebrations

Some of the locals attending the 90th birthday celebration for former Dusty native Martha Scheideman Hibbard in Spokane March 6 included Randy and Glenda Scheideman, Mary Scheideman, David and Phyllis Stueckle, Kim and Cindy Pitts and Jon and Diane Pitts. Approximately 50 people, some from Iowa, attended.

Vicki Broeckel, Sharry O’Hearne, Diane Geary and Karen Broeckel helped Berniece Krom celebrate her 94th birthday March 4 at the Whitman Health and Rehab Nursing Home in Colfax.

Jill and Kurt Reddig, formerly of Battleground, have purchased the former Altona Wigen home. They added another new Dusty resident when daughter Savannah was born Jan. 22.

Suzy McNeilly has been attending the National Conference on Aging in Chicago this week.

Linda Hennigar was in the Tri-Cities recently to attend grandson Wesley’s last basketball game of the season. Linda and Wesley also visited with Ron and Linda Hiskey that Sunday.

Jennifer Broeckel of Seattle visited her parents, Ed and Joan Broeckel, for several days recently. Last weekend, their other daughter, Amber, and her friend Lizzie, both Boise State students, visited.

Stetson Steiger, son of Duane and Tarri Steiger, went to Seattle last weekend with the Colfax Honor Society. They left at noon Friday and returned Sunday. They took the underground tour of Seattle, went to the Space Needle, Pike Place Market and Pioneer Square. Saturday evening, Stetson’s sister, Geraldine, now a student at the University of Washington, took a break from studying for finals to visit with her brother.

Karen Broeckel was in Spokane last week to be with her sister, Patty Wieber who underwent surgery for insertion of three stents were put into a clogged artery after sustaining a heart attack March 5. She is recovering at her home in Spokane.

Dusty residents lost two of their own last week. Tommy Zaring, former area farmer, died March 11 in Colfax. He is survived by two daughters, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and his brother, Keith Zaring.

Jim Hogue died March 16 in Spokane. He is survived by his wife Anne at their home, the former Alby Ochs house, two children, two step-children and five siblings.
