Courthouse staffers last week reported a return of the woodpecker to the upper reaches of the jail. The bird was rapping away at the exterior of the west side of the jail. Bob Reynolds, county facilities manager, said he believes woodpeckers are attracted by the easy boring into the insulation foam on the exterior of the building. The jail’s exterior foam and a spray surfacing were applied over concrete block or poured concrete walls. Woodpeckers who go to work on the building generally change boring locations after they hit concrete under the foam....
