LaCrosse
The grocery store committee has been meeting on routine basis. The grocery store will be a nonprofit entity. A request to the Town of LaCrosse to consider starting up a Public Development Authority, similar to the towns of Odessa, Republic, Ritzville, Garfield and Uniontown, was drafted and sent to the city council for consideration.
If the town elects not to enact a PDA, the grocery store committee has indicated they will file a nonprofit LLC for the grocery store.
The proposal is on the agenda for the April 8 city meeting which begins at 7 p.m.
The grocery store committee had a cleanup organization day at the store this past weekend. Salvageable items were moved to the Community Club in preparation for a garage sale. The store was examined, hazardous and dangerous items were removed. The committee can now utilize volunteers from this point forward. The grocery store committee will be having several more scheduled clean up days and have other tasks for those wanting to volunteer. If interested in volunteering or assisting, contact any committee member.
A garage sale is planned April 3 from 9 to 5 at the Masonic Hall. Many items will be available for purchase. All proceeds will go directly towards the nonprofit grocery store, with the roof being the first item that needs to be repaired.
Electrical, flooring and refrigeration all need updating or repair.
Other fund raising ideas are being considered and suggestions are welcome. All proceeds, money donated or money raised will go directly toward the repair and inventory restock of the grocery store.
Donations can be made at any Bank of Whitman site, under the account name: LaCrosse Community Pride. To make direct person to person donation, contact Carol Audet or Jen Broeckel. Other committee members include: Gary Wargo, Judy Harder, Darlene Knott, Jeannine Larkin, Jerry Townsend, Ed Casey, Scooter Lyle and Bob Dorman.
