Fifth teen dance set Friday at fairground
The fifth annual county teen dance will be Friday, April 9, from 8 to 11:30 p.m. at the Palouse Empire Fairground. The $5 admission fee will help fund the programs of 4H and Whitman County Library, including the Teen Advisory Board scholarship program which provide $25 to board members with two advisors being drawn for larger scholarships.
Last year, 300 teens attended the dance. DJ Ronnie Blackwood of Rock 94.5, ZZU 92.9 and Wired 96.9 will be back to play the dancing tunes while providing lots of free CDs, T-shirts and prizes.
The dance is for teens age twelve and up and identification is required at the door.
Fund raising event for Palouse Center
A fund raising event to fund construction of the Palouse Community Center will be Saturday, April 10, with a silent auction, bingo and baked potato feed from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Grange Hall. Children are allowed to play bingo when accompanied by an adult. For more info contact Doreen Hanson in Palouse.
Big Band ticket correction
Advance tickets for the Master Class Jazz Orchestra performance in Tekoa’s Empire Thearte Saturday, April 10, can be purchased by calling 509 284 5000. Advance tickets for adults will be $12, and admission for youths up to 18 will be $5. Tickets can also be purchased before the concert at $15 for adults. The concert begins at 7 p.m.
The 15-member Master Class Jazz Orchestra will perform a full concert featuring arrangements from the heyday of the swing area. The band includes professional musicians and students from the jazz area. Two Whitworth students will be featured as vocal soloists.
The telephone number and juvenile admission rate were incorrect in last week’s story because of incorrect information provided to the Gazette.
Dahmen Barn plans fourth demo day
Artisans at Dahmen Barn will present their fourth annual demonstration day, Saturday, April 17, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Regional artists have been invited to join resident artists in demonstrating their creative process with glass, the medium selected for this year.
Because nurturing creativity is what Artisans at the Dahmen Barn is about, the artists have been invited to bring work they have for sale and may promote classes they teach. It is our hope that visitors will be inspired to explore working with glass in the future.
Participants will include Mardi Bolick from Pullman, mosaic artist who incorporates glass in her pieces; Josephine (Jo) Brooks of Troy, lampwork glass bead artist who focuses on quality, style, and fun color combinations; Louise Colson of Viola, Idaho, fused and slumped glass through finished artwork and a power point computer demonstration; Jim Cooper from Palouse, arrowheads from glass using Native American time-tested skills; Mo Hendrickson and Aimee Stormo from Palouse, custom images on glass;Tracy Randall, creating beautiful glass beads; Jackie Ryan, stained glass is like paintings; Marlys Seubert from Lewiston, glass etchings.

Guy-Albion Pie SocialAnnual Pie Social sponsored by Guy Albion Historical Society will be Saturday, April 10, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the community center. Homemade pies, coffee, punch and ice cream will be available. Musical entertainment provided by Old Time Fiddlers.
Patchin’ PeoplePatchin’ People Quilt Guild invites all quilters and wannabes to their monthly meeting on Monday, April 12, 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church, 1015 NE Orchard Drive, Pullman, across from Beasley Coliseum. Local quilter, Cheryl Greenstreet, will present the program “My Quilt Journey.”

ART
“Slag, The Anti-Art Glass”, will be featured at the University of Idaho’s Prichard Art Gallery in downtown Moscow, Feb. 24 to April 10.
MUSIC
Award-winning guitar virtuoso Fareed Haque will give two performances with students and musical groups from the WSU School of Music April 13. Haque will perform at noon with WSU students in the CUB and join WSU’s vocal jazz ensemble and the WSU Big Band for a performance in Kimbrough Music Hall at 8 p.m.
After the performances, he will play at Rico’s Pub in downtown Pullman at 10:30 p.m.
His visit is sponsored by the WSU School of Music, The Jazz Society and the Coug Parents Fund. All events are free and open to the public.
WSU pianist Jeff Savage and cellist Ruth Boden will perform music from Russian composers at 8 p.m. April 16 in Bryan Hall Theater during “An Evening of Russian Music.” The last of this season’s Faculty Artist Series, the program will include the Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich sonatas for cello and piano, as well as the Pezzo Capricioso by Tchaikovsky.
All proceeds will benefit the School of Music scholarship fund. General admission is $10, $5 for seniors and non-WSU students, and free for WSU students Tickets will be available in the lobby one hour before concert time.

Kids in grades 1-4 will celebrate Earth Day during this month’s 3rd Thursday Club. The program is April 15 from 3:30-4:30 in the Colfax Library. Children coming directly from Jennings Elementary can simply ride Bus #1 with a note from their parent.
A community blood drive is set for Tuesday, April 20, from 1-5 p.m. in the US Bank Lobby. A mobile unit from Inland Northwest Blood Center will collect donations. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the library but walk-ins are also welcome.
This is a big week for Storytime attendees as they have finally reached the letter Z. The program is each Thursday in Colfax with Baby Time for ages 0-2 years from 10:10-10:30, Toddler Time for ages 2-3 from 10:30-11:00 and Preschool Time for ages 4 and up from 11:00-11:30.
Infants, toddlers, young children, their parents or others who care for them should attend the library’s Play and Learn. This free playgroup is held each Friday from 10:00-11:30. For additional Children’s programs in the library or via outreach, contact Sheri or Nichole.

Children’s programs throughout Whitman County are enhanced by community donations. Residents are invited to participate in the library’s annual Penny Drive through April 19 with all funds remaining in the local branch where they are collected.
