Dusty singers join benefit at Opera house

Linda Hennigar and Diane Monson were part of the women’s “Tapestry” choir that participated, along with a Yakima women’s choir, in a benefit performance Saturday at the Harrington Opera House.

Oscar Broeckel attended the 80th birthday celebration for Mac McLean at the Kenova Grange in Pine City April 10.

Cindy Pitts returned home Sunday after spending a week in Phoenix with her daughters and family, Carrie Pitts and Jen and Ryan Hammons and children.

Locals Wes Claassen, Norm Erickson, Pat Wuestney and Roger and Peggy Zaring were among 40 to 50 motorcycle riders who participated in a 100 mile ride sponsored by the Lewiston Christian Motorcycle Association Satruday. There were two routes to choose from. One was all paved and the other was a dual sport, mostly gravel, and canyon route on each side of the Snake River, crossing over Lower Granite Dam and back to Lewiston.

Wes, Jen, Bo and Lauren Claassen helped celebrate Darrel Claassen’s birthday last Monday night at his home after Bo and Lauren’s band concert. The children serenaded Grandpa with “Happy Birthday” played on the alto and tenor sax.

Dick and Helen Appel have a new great-grandchild, Calvin Richard Appel, born to Dan and Jordan Appel of Clovis, N.M.

Easter guests of Dick and Helen Appel were Lisa, Travis, Miriam and Rachel Frei, Colfax; Neil, Josh, Noemi and Isaac Appel, LaCrosse; Eric, Shannon, Connor, Christopher, Sarah, Kyle and Sidney Appel, Colfax; Philip Appel, Spokane; Susan Appel and Joe Lynch, Pullman; Kate and Joanne Wollstein and friend Pat, W.S.U. and Mark Appel, Steptoe.

Susan Appel, daughter of Dick and Helen Appel, and Joe Lynch, Winlock, have announced their engagement. A spring wedding is planned.

Dusty B.B. Club took their annual tour in the Dayton area last week. They sampled sheep and goat cheese at the Monteillet Fromagerie, toured the art gallery, Dingles Hardware Store, St. Vincent DePauls and a collection of small shops. They lunched at Weinhard Cafe. Attending were Rita Ackerman, Helen Appel, Joyce Appel, Dianne Appel, Ann Hogue, Fran Maki, Diane Monson, Jen Morris and Sandy Passmore. Officers for next year were elected. President will be Fran Maki; Vice-president, Helen Appel; Secretary, Rita Ackerman; and Treasurer, Karen Broeckel. The next meeting will be the Guest Luncheon on Tuesday, May 11, 12:00 noon, at the Wilcox Grange. Alex McGregor will present the program.

Remember: The “2nd Annual Dusty Farm Girls Yard Sale” will be Saturday, May 8, on the grassy area in front of the Dusty Country Store. The sale starts at 9 a.m. until they are done. Bo Claassen, son of Wes and Jen Claassen, went on the trip to the Grand Canyon during spring break with the Onecho Bible Church Junior High boys. Jen and her daughter Lauren attended the Broadway musical of “Little House on the Prairie” Sunday evening at the INB Performing Arts Center in Spokane.

John Brink and Brandy Ahmstad, Colton, spent the weekend with his parents, Larry and Di Brink. Saturday, Kevin and Amber Brink, Ashley, Kloey and newest daughter Ellie Margaret, born March 26, Tri-cities; Carol and Don Keeney, LaCrosse; and Lucky and Joan Myrick, Dusty; were visitors. Kevin and John came to help fix part of the barn roof that blew off in the big wind that came through last week. They also brought a picnic lunch so Grandma Di had plenty of time to rock the newest granddaughter.

Quincy Morris, son of Luke and Jennifer Morris, celebrated his third birthday this weekend. Saturday, his grandfather Larry Lewis and his wife Raqual of Lewiston came for a visit bearing gifts. Monday evening, the family, including grandparents Keith and Sally Morris, celebrated Quincy’s birthday with gifts, Arby’s, and ice cream.

Art Sager and Steve Camp joined the sheriff’s posse annual fund raiser all-day horseback ride in the Wawawai area Saturday.

Monday, Karen Broeckel and her sister Patty Wieber of Spokane visited with their aunt Marie Holliday, in her home in Spokane, and her daughter’s family, Paula and Dale Viles, Olivia, Jacob and Daniel, who have been visiting for three weeks from their home in Norfolk, England.
