Nighthawk Kiah Madison slides into the plate at Garfield Saturday ahead of the toss back to Viking catcher Emily Witthuhn. The two east side teams, who will be 2B contenders in the SE playoffs, split the doubleheader in windy conditions.
The GP Vikings and TOR Nighthawks split a doubleheader Saturday on the windy Garfield field while the Colton Wildcats crunched their TCP twice at Colton. The pair of wins advanced Colton’s overall record to 11-3.
Touchet’s powerhouse team took two big wins over the Tigercats Saturday at Washtucna.
Colton defeated the Jags 12-0 in the opener with sophomore Taylor Nilson throwing a one-hitter. The Wildcats backed her with nine hits with Mikayla Nygreen tagging three hits and Megan Heitstuman and Paige Vincent each tagging a pair of hits. Heitstuman doubled.
Colton led 8-0 after three innings and went over the 10-run mark with three more in the bottom of the fifth.
Nygreen threw a one hitter in the second game while Colton batters kept up the offense with 14 hits.
Kaitlin Druffel booked three RBIs off two hits. Grace Druffel, Haley Moser, Molly Kramer and Nilson each had two hits. Nilson tripled.
At Garfield, the Vikings cracked a 5-3 edge after three innings of the first game and made it stand up through the next four innings. Emily Witthuhn allowed six hits in taking the win and battled when the Nighthawks put runners on the bags in the last two innings.
The Vikings totaled seven hits with Emily Witthuhn tagging two, including a two-run rap in the second. Sami Johnson also had two hits with a two-run shot in the third when the Vikings took the lead.
The Vikings took the opener despite four errors.
The second game went to a 5-5 tie after three innings with the `hawks scoring two in the top of the sixth to scratch out a 7-6 win. The Vikings scored one in the bottom of the inning.
Gar/Pal again out-hit the ‘hawks with Terrie Taylor getting two. The Vikings again were hurt by errors.
Brian Maley pitched both games for the ‘hawks who had five hits in the second game.
At Washtucna, Touchet continued to rattle the drum prior to the SE playoffs by shutting out the Tigercats twice, 1-0 and 15-0. The chiefs had nine hits in the first game and eight hits in the second game.
Taylor Burke pitched the opener for the T-cats, and Kirsten Stubbs pitched the second game.
Tri-Cities-Prep is booked to play at Washtucna Saturday.
