Edmond E. Nelson
A memorial service for Edmond Ellsworth Nelson, 47, will be Friday, May 7, at 1 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Princeton, Idaho, with the Rev. Kathy Kramer officiating. Potlatch VFW and an United States Army honor guard will conduct military honors. Mr. Nelson died suddenly from an apparent heart attack Thursday, April 29, 2010, in Moscow.
Born April 13, 1963, at Hermiston, Ore., to Elmo Ellsworth and Ethel Nadine Currie Nelson, he attended school at Troy, Idaho, and later graduated from the Walla Walla High School in 1981.
He entered the United States Army March 9, 1984, and served in Germany for three years and in Korea for one year. He was discharged as a sergeant June 17, 1991. He married Terrie L. May Oct. 9, 2003, at Moscow, and the couple made their home at Princeton.
Ed learned the trade of lock smithing at the age of nine and worked with his father Ells Nelson of Ells Lock Service for the past 30 years. Ed also worked in construction for a few years and was a long haul driver for Swift Transport Co. of Lewiston for two years.
For the past several years, he has delivered newspapers in the Moscow area for the Moscow-Pullman Daily News, Lewiston Tribune and the Spokesman Review. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Survivors include his wife Terrie Nelson at the Princeton home, step-son, Shawn Browning, Phoenix, Ariz .; three daughters, Emily Fredrick and Rebekka Harrod, both of Williamsburg, Pa .; Amanda Nelson, Princeton; four step-daughters, Lisa Rainey, Georgia; Laurie Garvey, Pennsylvania; Brandi Holland, Poteau, Okla., Samantha Heilman, Princeton; his mother and father, Ells and Nadine Nelson, Moscow; one brother, Elmo E. Nelson III, Moscow; one sister, Suzie E. Caldwell, Ferndale; his paternal grandmother, Alice Nelson, Walla Walla, and 18 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Heilman.
Memorials may be given to the Potlatch Ambulance Fund, Box 63, Potlatch, 83855, or to a trust fund to be set up for Amanda Nelson at the Potlatch Federal Credit Union in Potlatch.
James A. Myers
The funeral for James A. Myers, 66, retired Pullman teacher, was Wednesday at the Terre View Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Pullman. Burial followed at the Pullman Cemetery. Mr. Myers died Friday, April 30, 2010, at his Pullman home.
Born in Kalispell, Mont., Nov. 28, 1943, to James R. and Violet Arneson Myers, he was raised in Kalispell with the exception of a few years in Missoula where his father taught school. He graduated from Flathead High School in 1961 and attended Northern Montana College in Havre and then the University of Idaho were he earned bachelor and master’s degrees. After earning his bachelor’s degree in 1967, he taught Distributive Education at Pullman High School until the program was discontinued and then taught English, Math and Driver’s Education. Jim retired from teaching in 1989 due to heath complications.
He married Linda Robertson Aug. 18, 1964, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Beginning at about his fourth year of marriage, Jim’s diabetic complications began with the deterioration of his vision. He underwent several eye surgeries in San Francisco. In 1991 Jim received a kidney from an anonymous donor that gave him almost 19 additional years of life.
Living with diabetes became his personal struggle through which he also found great purpose and strength. He enjoyed backpacking, canoeing and fishing in his healthier years. Lionel trains were his passion, and he was a member of the Palouse Empire Rail Society.
He was a member of the Terre View Ward of the LDS Church in Pullman since 1967 and served in many capacities including Sunday School President, Elder’s Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, High Council and Activities Committee.
Surviving are his wife Linda; four children: Gordon (Lisa) Myers, Coeur d’Alene; Tamara (Blake) Hill, Hillsboro, Ore .; Brett (Darcell) Myers, Pullman; Tonja (Jay) Janette, Seattle; one brother Kenneth Myers, Havre, Mont., and 12 grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the Perpetual Education Fund of the LDS Church.

Phil A. Southwick
A memorial service for Phil A. Southwick, 83, will be Saturday, May 8, at 2 p.m. at Kramer Funeral Home, Palouse. The Rev. Kathy Kramer will officiate. Potlatch Post of VFW and a US Navy color guard will conduct military honors. Cremation preceded the service.
Mr. Southwick died Friday, April 30, 2010, at the Aspen Park Healthcare in Moscow
Born March 28, 1927, at Southwick, Idaho, to Howard and Opal Thornton Southwick, he attended school at Kendrick, joined the United States Navy May 10, 1945, and served with the 121st Naval Construction Battalion in the Pacific Theater. He served on Guam and Siapan before he was discharged June 24, 1946, as a machinist’s mate third class.
He married Betty Carlson Sept. 19, 1953, and they made their home in the Elmore district north of Potlatch where they farmed and logged. Mr. Southwick also worked for Bennett Lumber Co. as a sawyer and loader operator.
The couple divorced. In 1998, he moved to Kendrick and shared a home with his companion Mary Crumley until she died in February of this year. He then moved back to Potlatch to live with his son. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include two sons, Carl Southwick, Potlatch; Eric Southwick, Clarkston; one daughter, Gwen Burkgart, Potlatch; one sister, Mae Hanks, Lewiston; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
