Garfield penny drive tops $144 for library

The annual library penny drive at Garfield Library brought in over $144 in change. Children in the kindergarten-first class topped the donation competition to win an ice cream party.

The branch also received large glass jars and plastic baggies of change from Garfield residents who wanted their saved pennies to go towards a good cause. The funds from the drive help support the library’s children programs such as Storytime and Summer Reading Program.

The library will be part of Garfield’s May 15 May Day parade and have a display at the park between noon and 4 p.m. Many new books for children and adults have been donated for a book sale. Proceeds from the book sale will also benefit children’s programs.

Storytime at the Garfield Library is at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays through May 26. Make a Splash at your library summer reading program will be on Mondays beginning June 14 at 1 p.m. at the Garfield library. Be sure to join for books, crafts, and snacks about puddles, rivers, oceans, and bathtub and beach fun.

Palouse Discovery Science Center will bring experiments and water wonders July 12 as part of the program.
